Most of the time, it's not the camera that makes or breaks the picture. This is a good example. How you post process makes a huge difference when needed.

Just because one wants to paint and buys the most expensive paint brush, paints and canvas, it doesn't necessarily mean he'll paint a masterpiece.

Having a 40D or a fancy lens almost means nothing, unless you do prints.

Post Process to get the most out of what you have. His composition needs work.

It's obvious he's a beginner. My advice is to read up on photography, and keep shooting. As long as he keeps shooting, and tries to absorb information, he's on the right track.

Nope, that's not why it looks like a point and shoot could have taken those shots...

There are composition issues, but that's minor for now.

It just needs to be post processed.

Good glass, good post processing, and practice (skill) will make more of a difference than having a good camera [body].

"to each their own"

you can't make a bad picture good with photoshop. photoshop is a tool to help enhance pictures, but you need something to enhance first.

While I agree that you can't make a bad picture good with photoshop, if you know what you're doing with PS and can best utilize it as a tool, you most certainly can make an otherwise unattractive picture much, much better.

I mean no offense to your PS jobs, but frankly I think they look worse than the originals.

I spent about 10 minutes on each, doing nothing more than color correcting. OP it would help if the pictures were better res, but I worked with what you posted:

before:

after

before

after

I agree with whoever stated above that the problem is both composition and skill.

Nothing personal whatsoever, but I'd have to say the same about yours.

Everything looks toast in the first picture.

The glowing effect doesn't do much in the second. And you still can't see any details in the wheels whatsoever. The sky is still blown. I'm guessing the pictures were taking in the evening. The light at this time usually offers a warm tone. The Z looks warm yet everything surrounding is seems to be cool.

My issue with the first pictures is theres to much going on around the car, the car is part of the picture as with the parking lot, the building, the sky... what am I looking at?

get really far back set your Fstop as long as you can and shoot the car fully zoomed in, this might help with the building in the background, but you still have the issues of the parking lot lines and the parking lot wall.

I'm not a big fan of parking lots unless they're basic and dont take from the picture, most of them do =(

Guys, I think we all must remember, that it is ultimately the shot taker's intended interpretation that is "correct." No one can change what we think is "better." We can make suggestions to "better" the end result, but not all will have the same sentiments.

Here is my interpretation that I personally think will better the original shot.

Does this make my interpretation better than the interpretations above? No. It just gives another viewpoint of the same pic, which I thought had some glaring weaknesses (which again, really, is just my opinion).

If the picture taker really intended it to look that way, then I can appreciate that.
