Default Picture of my bedroom window.

I just moved into this house from a 1 bedroom apartment with shades and thick black curtins to keep the bright street lights out, so having open windows once again is really nice!

anywho, laying in bed around 3:30 last night, looking out the window, I really liked how it looked so I shot off some pictures.

first picture is over exposed but I like that about it.

2nd picture is a bit more correct on exposure.

both pictures have zero editing done to them other then resizing.

both pics are underexposed by 1-1.5 stops it looks like... if you look at your histogram the bulk of the curves will fall to the left...

I could care less about the room, the goal was for the tree to be the main part of the picture, do you not feel the tree is over exposed in the first one?

As far as the curtins, its not too bright in the morning. not like my apartment was. I guess the bed is far enough away from the windows. however, I do have some pull down window coverings going on sooner or later, still trying to figure out what matches the flooring the best.

I see, so we're evaluating just the contents beyond the window- not the whole picture. If you're center weighted or matrix metered then both images are underexposed, with the 2nd photo more so. If you're spot metering just the trees then first picture is better exposed than the 2nd. But then its hard to say for real because they're completely different photos taken at different angles. In your 2nd picture, the light at the lower left played tricks on you metering system, making it think the conditions are brighter than it really is, thereby compensating with negative exposure, thus darker overall image. IMO the 1st picture is nicer because the glow from outside lights up the window frames.
