Default Opinions on Best HD cam for Photo taking? (going to buy a new one)

As of right now i have a Sony Cyber Shot t200 8.1 MP HD Camera.
The pictures it takes is pretty tight, but i might be giving it to my GF and buying a new one. Was wondering with seeing all the amazing pictures out there whats the best or in all you opinions a good HD camera to get. I do want digital as well.

I was looking into the Nikon ones. Any ideas on those?

^cause I'm sure he would know how to use it considering he's asking for an HD camera haha... but on a more serious note, HD camera thing is just a marketing gimmic because they can be displayed on HD tv's through different connections. If Digital SLR is what you're looking for and you're just trying to get into the game, look at the entry levels by Nikon or Canon... Nikon D40 or D40x or D60 blah blah blah... or the dfferent Canon Rebels I'm a nikon guy so i dont know the names of the canon's sorry.

+1 for hasselblads

if u want an cheap slr, look into a used d40, they go for about 300 on ebay.

if u have a little more budget, get a used xti or d80.

The new Canon 5D markII is Awesome. Body will be about 3k. But it is a full size CMOS sensor, and 16 MegaPixels. It also will film 1080p video.

Actually my mistake. I found a newer link to the Canon 5D.

Its 21 Mega Pixels.

for a cheap slr for nikon, i'd suggest the slightly older d50 over the d40, i personally didn't like the lack of a top lcd on the d40, and it lacks an auto focus motor in the body. Which means your lens choices will be limited if you want to keep the auto focus. They are relatively cheap as well, i saw one on craigslist the other day for 225, body only.
