Pic of Big Bear. Opinions?
I took this pic in big bear but i don't really like it. I think it's becasue of that discusting dirty snow in the front and i didn't want to crop it. Anyway my friends like it but I don't. Your opionons and suggestions?

Agreed, the dirty snow kills the pic.
Is the snow dirty because
1) it's actually dirty
2) it's underexposed
3) it's a side effect of HDR process
?
Actually, I think even if the snow was virginally pure, it would detract from the picture.
I think you would have done better if you had taken 2 or 3 steps forward and shot just past that snow bank. It also doesn't help that the snow is not in focus, perhaps if your DOF had been a bit larger, it may have helped.
Sometimes, things just can't be saved in photoshop. Composition at the time of taking the shot still counts.

- too much contrast from tone mapping
- take landscape pictures at dawn or dusk instead of midday overcast
- the bank of dirty snow in the foreground doesn't add anything to the overall picture
