I have heard great things about the 18-200mm vr too but I want to break that focal length into 3 lens. Ideally My setup would be:

Nikon 18-35mm AF-S f3.5-4.5
Nikon 35-70mm AF f2.8
Nikon 70-300mm AF f4.5-5.6

I currently have the last covered but I'm missing the first two. I'm using the 50mm f1.4 and a Tamron SP (pro series) 24-135mm which is a beautiful lens but I might sell it since it's duplicating a large parts of my focal length that the 70-300 covers. I might also skip the 35-70mm f2.8 in favor of just carrying the 50mm f1.4 prime. The other option for a good wideangle that's affordable would be a 20mm f2.8 but I like having the extra 2mm and zoom capability with the 18-35mm....so many choices!

Im getting the 18-200mm VR even though I have 18-55mm and 70-300mm. The 18-200mm VR will replace those 2 lenses 99 percent of the time and honestly I got tired of switching lenses all the time. I often take pictures of my kids, so the zoom is very important. If you take static objects, then 18-200mm VR is not a must since you have time to swap around. You already have 50mm 1.4, so thats going to be handy for low light situation. 70-200 f/2.8 would be a great lense to have too. You are right, too many choices

I think you're better off waiting for a D4 should be 2011 right? You got so many toys already

Yeah if I was shooting DX cameras the 18-200mm VR = done! With the D700 and my specific needs I am better off with 3 or 4 I listed since I'll need a wide angle for cars + some event shots, a portrait lens (the 50mm or the 35-70 f2.8) and the 70-300mm VR for wildlife and any news/reporting needs. I was considering trading the 70-300mm VR for the 80-200mm f2.8 so I can use it in low light as well but I'm not sure if I want to give up the extra 100mm + the nice weight (the 80-200mm f2.8 is a lot heavier) because I carry my gears with my 24/7

ah I c.. makes sense then. With full frame you will need more reach but you get wider with any lense... How do you like the D700 so far?

Hey there,

Member of Nikonians.org here.

I bought my first Z last week - loving every second with it. Mods have begun - just added an OEM spoiler and S2k antenna. Decent stereo planned for January.

Anyway, here's a photo from a few I took at the weekend to send to the folks back in Ireland.

I have a D80, 18-200VR, SB-600, various filters.

Thanks,

Davy

I have a D90 with the following lens/accessories

Nikon AF-S 14-24mm 2.8
Nikon AF-S 18-70mm 3.5-4.5
Nikon AF 24mm 2.8
Nikon AF-S 35mm 1.8
Nikon AF 50mm 1.8

Nikon SB-600 Flash

I'm hoping to get the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 someday.

I want the 24-70mm too but just can't justify it when my 50mm 1.4 is a lot sharper and I can cover that range by walking

D60 with kit lens 18-55mm and zoom lens 55-200mm. Saving money for an all in one wide range 18-200mm lens and sell the other 2 lens to get my money back.

If you look hard i see them going for about as low as $520 and sell your other 2 for about $250-$300

Hey guys...don't post a whole lot over in this neck of the forum (mostly look around), but I shoot a D70 with the 18-70mm kit lens and a 70-300mm. They're not the best glass ever...but they serve me well.

Anyone who's been to ZDayZ has seen me around....been shooting that for the last four years.

Anywhoo....I've been considering taking the plunge again and moving to one of the newer Nikon Models. I'm sort of on the fence about a new body since I've developed something a tracking habit this past year and will have to feed that need regularly. But since it sounds like a lot of you are more on top of what's new than I am, any suggestions on what body I should consider? I'm pondering the whole full frame deal....and am sort of leaning that way.

^ The D60 isn't "pro" but that doesn't mean it's not a good camera. I went through 3 canon amateur cameras before I finally bought a D300 which was a semi-pro and then finally moving onto a D700. Just don't go around calling a d60 a pro-dslr oryou might have a few embarrassing moments

D60 here with kit lens and Nikor 18-200VR. I've never used the kit lens since the 18-200VR blows it out of the water.

D40 here with the 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm f1.8. I've been shooting with it for a couple of years now, and am trying to convince myself to upgrade to the D90. Anyone recently make that jump that can speak to the improved picture quality?
