Still new to photography but my new 50mm f/1.8 came in last week and was curious as to how it would perform and very happy to say that I love it. The DOF is really cool and gives you a lot of options on how you want the shot to be setup. Here are a few and of course C&C is welcome. If you can give any pointers please let me know. BTW my name is only on there for practice not to act like I'm worthy of it yet. Thanks!

Not bad bro! A bit of noise but the composition is good. I think I might have said this before but you should restrain from putting your watermarks on these until they get better. You'll realize you'll re-process a lot of old pics if they're good or you'll just want to hide them so that only your best [most often your newest works] shows!

 

I've always loved my 50mm... until I dropped it and it exploded into pieces. Poor little lens. Comp looks good, nothing bad about them but I noticed some could have been a bit sharper (focus/speed problem). I especially like #2.

 

Thanks guys, I'll fix my name when I get home. As far as noise I tried to reduce it shooting no higher than ISO 400 (I usually try 100-200) most of the time except in the 3rd pic which I believe was 1600. Any other tips to eliminate noise? Obviously a tripod will help for clarity but I'd also like some tips for handheld since a lot of my pics will be shot without a tripod. I've tried slowing my breathing and holding it "correctly".

IMO, the noise is fine. It fits the situation. Dark backlit subject in a moody image...it works for me. What you want to be aware of is when the use or introduction of noise hurts or doesn't flow with the theme of an image. That of course like so many other things in photography is subjective.

 

I'm sure this isnt what you wanted to see, but this is how I (mostly) use my fifty..... REVERSED!

If I could afford a 100mm macro, I'd have one.. but this $7 adapter has been worth every penny and then some.

 

Great points. I agree that the noise adds character to these pics.

I rarely shoot below 800... but it's just my style. And I shoot for fun, not profit.
