JDM SPORT PHOTOSHOOT S2K and XB and a Model
I use umbrellas if I do straight portraits but most of my work with people has been spontaneous portraits so I will normally use an off camera SB800 with the stock nikon diffuser and the stock nikon incandescent gel filter with my flash at +1 EV and iTTL. White balance I generally run on auto when I'm shooting with that since that is my club photography setup and with all the crazy colours of lights they mess with the wb. If I need battery life I will generally not run a gel filter cause even with 5AA batteries running at +1EV the flash eats through them quickly. You could even use a modelling light and one of those gold reflective disks if you want. The best option is to have a model that is patient so you can try many things at once. What camera are you running?

I'm using a d7000 right now. For the most part I have time to experiment with different so that's good. A modeling lamp is actually a good idea. Thanks for all the info
