Default Photo shoot, model - Angel K

Here are a few images from my first time shooting with the Alien Bees with a model. She's into comic books, video games, Japanese pop culture, hence the Batman knee-high socks and Superman tee

Canon 5D MKII with Canon 70-200 2.8L IS
Alien Bees B800 with 22" white beauty dish with a 30 degree reflector

Same strobe setup as above except with a B800 aimed at the background on these two images below

Here is the BTS video of the shoot: http://vimeo.com/35257294

The first set in the kitchen, yes.
The Superman t-shirt I will fix later. I think I was post processing for too long and rushed to get that one done.

Are you bouncing the flash or are you pointing it directly at the target?

The main light is a beauty dish shot at the model.
Different session, but same setup:

ahhhh explains the partial white out.

I guess with some post processing you can "fix" the over exposure, could work slightly better if you would bounce the light instead of direct light...

just my opinion of course, I do not take photos for a living.

Here's a good video on uses of beauty dishes (probably more in detail than you'd want to watch due to the length). They are meant to be shot directly at the model as the main light or from the side as a rim light. There are different modifiers (socks, grids, etc) that will modify the light spill.

For the shots in the kitchen, this was my first time using them on a model so it's more or less an experiment and learning experience. I only used a grid without the sock, so the light was a little more harsh. For the 2nd shoot, I used the sock to soften the light.

I have better photos but she felt they were too revealing, so I won't be publishing them.

Here's the behind the scenes video from that session:

Seen this video before, seems a little gimmicky to me. Depending on what kind of lens and what kind of flash/light setup you want to use the results can be much different than what that video is saying.
