Manual tranmission questions.
i have a few questions regarding manual transmission.
1st question is when driving manual is it bad in any way to drive without pressing the clutch inbetween the gears?
2nd i heard its bad to redline the car when in nuetral vs when in motion.
I had a 3rd question but i seem to have forgotten it lol

1) You can shift gears quite nicely without disengaging the clutch - if you match the revs exactly. If not, you'll cause lots of extra, premature wear on the syncro's.
2) Why would you even want to do such a thing?
2) Why would you even want to do such a thing?
1. If the engine rpms don't match the gear rotation speed in your transmission you will grind the gears witch is never good.
2. Whenever you rev an engine out of gear there is no resistance allowing engine components to slap around, again not a good thing. Can you do it, sure, however the faster and longer you free rev an engine you increase the chance of damange.

i knew about the whole gear grinding was just curious if it did any other kinda of damage it may cause. i dont redlin my car in nuetral it was just something i heard. i remembered my 3rd question
when downshifting gears 6-2 go in smooth. going down to 1st gear i literally need 2 put some force when trying to push it in gears dont grind just hard to go in. it this normal for a 350?

No, they don't. It's just that there is a larger difference in gear ratios as you shift down in each gear from 6th to 1st, so the difference in engine revs between gears is also larger. I have a long private driveway to my house, which is very bumpy, and I shift down into 1st on a daily basis. If the engine revs are matched properly, the shift lever slides into 1st just as easily as in any other gear during a downshift. I will say, though, that in most circumstances downshifting into 1st is fairly useless.
Don't put it in 1st until you're stopped or going very slowly. If I'm not completely stopped I'll usually just start in 2nd (bogs a little but that's one less shift). Lately I've been getting lazy, doing 1-3-5 or 1-2-4-6.
when i downshift into 1st ill be going maybe 10 mph? but either way no matter what my revs are its still stiff to go in. aslong as i know its not doing any harm to my baby then im happy

Didnt say you couldnt get around it, but the lock out is there.

I find absolutely little use for first gear anyways unless I'm in a parking garage, take it into downtown Seattle (cuz the hills suck), or trying to embarrass some HS kid in his parents AUDI... but deff. no need to downshift into 1st.
