Default VQ35DE Swapped and Superchaged 1998 Maxima

I know that this is a 350z forum; but the car has almost identical characteristics with a 350z. I wanted to post on here to share my project as well as do my best to help others. I am a member on maxima.org, but as far as having a boosted VQ35, there are not many people. Thus, needing input or help with problems can be hard to find. Well I put the motor back into the car. Anyways the setup is a 2004 VQ35 on 3.0 timing, V2 on a V1 bracket, 2.87 pulley, 3" charge piping, JWT ecu with 370cc and z32 maf, z32 maf, Deatschworks 600cc injectors, Cattman headers, 3" warpspeed catback (waiting to be installed), Innovate LC-1 wideband, Greddy EMU, ARP rod bolts, and a short shifter. The only problem I have had so far is the the damn injectors and their clips. The injectors are deatschworks 600cc's. For some reason, these clips will not fit snug like the stock injectors do. Someone please tell me the secret!
Thanks,
Zack

Entire engine bay. The 3.0 piping did not agree with the throttle body position, what a head ache:

I cut a hole in the fender for the cold air:

HKS SSQ blow off valve:

300zx maf and overflow relocated:

Some interior shots, I dont have a boost gauge yet because I am still trying to decide how to hide it, yet see it.

The Innovate LC-1 gauge:

And finally the exterior. I am going for the complete sleeper look, which is also why I want my gauges hidden.

I hope ya'll enjoyed these.

No, Just have the flange welded onto the charge piping. I LOVE the SSQ blow off valve. Have you had trouble with it?

Very cool and nice sleeper! What kind of power are you making? Is the torque steer bad? I have the d-werks 600cc injectors and they dropped right in like stock and no clips or harnesses needed.

a bov will not work with a vortech without modification. The bypass valve that vortech uses is different from a bov.

For the injectors, you didnt use those clips that came on the stock injectors that cliped them into the fuel rail? Anyways, I am having some MAJOR belt slipping issues. One of the mounting points for the blower to the V1 bracket sits directly under the supercharger pulley. The V1 bracket was made for the VQ30DE and the tensioners and placement of certain other pulleys are slightly different. In order to tighten the belt enough so it doesn't slip, it wants to rub on that mounting post. The best I could get on the dyno was 305whp and 301wtq and 5200rpms around 6 - 7 psi. It should be pusing around 13.5 psi. The most boost we saw was a quick spike to 8 psi. I have to pull the bracket and blower assembly off and take a saw to that post. Also I am going to try a half inch shorter (in length) belt to prevent the belt from arching into eachother between the supercharger idler pulley and the stock tensioner. It sucked that I paid for a useless tune due to the belt slip, but I am impressed with the numbers at such low boost and with the belt slipping so bad.

I can't take credit for the BOV because the previous owner of the kit had the flange welded into the pipe. As far as I know, there wasn't any extra modification needed. I just tapped the vacuum line for the VI and I haven't had any problems. Why won't the BOV's work with the Vortech kits? I would think that they would once the flange is welded into the piping and you tap a good source of vacuum. Is there a certain reason they won't work? I searched around on the maxima.org forums and the only thing I saw was something about the spring.

I had a quick question for ya'll that are running the Vortech kits. What brand belts do ya'll find the best? I have heard some people say gatorbacks, and I have heard people say the gatorbacks are terrible and slip a lot. I am planning on special ordering a gates belt (I can't find an autoparts store around that stocks them). Any ideas?

gatorbacks worked best for me.

I think i was the first one to do this setup. My car was a 2000 w/ a 3.5, V2 SC, and cams. I was on maxima.org a few years ago. That is going to be a fun car man, i just wish i could have got mine running right before i got rid of it.

I will definitely post up some vids and final dyno numbers once everything is ironed out. With meth injection, I think I can get her up into the high 400's range.

Understandable but you will have surge. The best BOV to use with the V2 is the Vortech Mondo. I too had a VQ35 swapped 4th gen supercharged in 2006. Just never posted it. You can find my for sale threads in maxima.org under the screen name mforrest100.

after some adjusting of the pre-load spring mine worked fine. I am sure there was some surge, but not enough to affect the SC bearings. My blower had like 30,000 miles w/ this setup when i sold it and never had a issue w/ it.

BTW i remember you from the org, is your name mike? Do you have a z or g now?
