Hey guys. I'm not sure if anyone was aware but I made a single exhuast a while back and sold it to another member for cheap. I learned a lot about the fabrication process back then and now I've decided to re-do a lot of things the "proper" way. I work at a manufacturing company and my boss was kind enough to let me borrow the shop for making this happen. Almost every skill needed for me to do this, I learned by teaching myself so please forgive any imperfections or my unorthodox methods. Here's my new and improved custom single exhaust.
Starting with the flange to mate the piping to the existing y-pipe, I created Solidworks models of the flanges. I planned to have the y pipe flange CNC machined but decided to make it manually to save some coin.
Cutting this 3" hole took foreeeeever. I'm definitely machining flanges next time around.
I printed out a 1:1 drawing of the model I made and it looks like I got the hole centers well within the margin for error.
Flange came out a little rougher on one side than the other but none the less, I am satisfied with it.
Got the Z in the shop and laid out all of the raw material I planned to use. All piping is T304 stainless as well as the flange and the barstock for the muffler hanger. I decided on using a GReddy RS muffler after hearing a friends IS300 with one. Also using a stainless steel v-band clamp to make assembly simple
My simple torch setup. Trying to make the most out of my #8 gas lens. Really want to get the #12 or #14 from ToxicFab so I can minimize the oxidation even furthur
Tacked on a short piece of pipe to get started and cut some sections from the mandrel bends.
Off with the AAM exhaust I got from MM08350z
After going back and forth tacking one piece at a time, I came up with this
And it fits just how I want it to!
For the most part, this is the finished product. Just needs the final welds on it
Making sure it fits just right and it does!
In case you're wondering whats going on with my diff, I painted a smiley face on the cover so I don't mix it up with my stock one lol But this is exactly how I want the exhaust to look

I still have to finish welding and cleaning it but I figured I'm at a good point where I can share this with the Z community. Let me know what you guys think! My biggest concern was making sure the exhaust would clear the mid crossmember right after the y-pipe ends. I've noticed a lot of exhausts made by reputable company's dont do this. For example, the AAM I currently own is in constant contact with this crossmember. It makes a terrible rattling noise around 2k rpms. I'm sure some know exactly what I'm talking about. I don't have near the seat time and experience to be considered a professional in the fabrication field but I aspire to get there one day

I have pretty much the same exhaust setup. test pipes > stock Y pipe > 3 inch piping to a Greddy rs muffler. best sounding exhaust imo. really deep and not raspy.

For now, I'm going to try to solar flux all the joints I can reach. The plan was to back purge the whole thing but I need to think of a good way to set that up with only 1 argon bottle
Exhaust looks good man and props to building it yourself! and yeah where are you located im interested in doing the same thing as you did and was wondering how much youd charge
I REALLY admire people who have the talent to do that kind of fabrication. I can build an engine, set a diff, tear into a trans and even do electronic/software stuff but.... that's all with manufactured components I buy not DIY. Awesome.
Rustyschopshop, yeah the shop is loaded with tools. But in the end, I only used a table vice, band saw, angle grinder, rotating welding positioner, and the tig welder to do all this. The most expensive being the band saw. I plan to have all of these on my own one day

Hey guys just wanted to "pipe in". sorry for the bad pun. I can definitely vouch for this as I purchased his old exhaust. Even after he told me it was his first welding project I was very impressed with the fit so I know he is doing some high quality work. also in for sound clips

A side note here, on the pipe that connects between the y pipe and muffler pipe, I'm comtemplating putting a resonater right before the v band to get some cleaner sound
