Hey fellas, I have five questions:

1) During hard acceleration I smell what seems to be burning oil? Is this normal? I have not searched and I have checked my oil level, it seemed fine. I have an 06.

2)When leaving an area that the car has sat in turned off for mmmmmm.... say more then 10 min, I hear a low sorta bassy rumble coming from the front of the car that lasts for 1 second then goes away. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm accelerating hard or just barely moving... It always happens. Any ideas?

3)Lastly, my rear hatch is un-aligned. The passenger side is not as low as the driver side. I checked out some other Z's and mine seems to be the only one with the problem. I searched, and came up with very little. ANy ideas on a fix?

4)Is a K&N drop in air filter the best bet to go with? I ask cause I need to get a replacement filter and I didn't really see the need to get an all new aftermarket intake as I don't really track/race.

5)Yesterday I had to brake hard for the first time and I felt alot of vibration--"rapid pulsating" from the brakes. This isn't my first ABS car but it's my understanding that it shouldn't have had a need for ABS to kick in as I was only going 70 and the ground was not wet. Is this normal? Lastly what would be the best pads to get for our cars for someone like me whom would like minimal brake dust and doesn't drive hard/track/race?

Thanks in advance, sorry for all the newb questions.

J. Dub...

1. I have an 06 as well and have never smelled burning oil but our year Z's are the most notorious for oil consumption. I have read about quite a few Z owners having to have their engines replaced. That work has been covered under warranty too. If you search you will find many threads on this subject.

2. I have heard the same noise coming from my car as well. I have looked in and under my car and have never noticed anything wrong with it. Not sure I would worry unless its followed by an explosion. Lol!

4. I have read that alot of members prefer the K&N drop in with the 06 airbox, is supposed to be better than all previous years, over many intakes. I myself run a JWT Popcharger and like it alot. It's only around $100 new and really easy to install. It also has a great sound to it under acceleration!

The other questions I'm not so sure about!

Ok guys I need opinoins from ya! I have been looking for rims as many of you know and I have a poll to ask. Do you guys think Bronze rims on my Silver Z would look good? Not the bright bronze but the dark bronze. Any thoughts?

Thanks luv2b! I shant worry about it as much then. Yea, that oil consumption I've read about but it seems to plague MT's... I haz AT. lol

And IMO, I think Black on your silver ride would look best. I'm not a fan of bronze.

1. have you inspected your valve covers? All the way in the back, you will need a flashlight and telescoping mirror

2. thats the ABS pump check, should always do it after sitting for a few mins. completely normal.

well, also, if you have VDC and you are trying to break the rear tire's traction, you will be dragging the rear brakes ever so slightly. Brake Biasing and VDC will try stop your fun. You'll smell hot brake pad if you do it enough.

Lucky for me I don't have VDC since I'm auto. I don't know if I'd like having it anyways. FI is having a nice discount on thier exhaust if anyone is interested. I'd jump on it but he said my idea of a center exhaust like the one he once created would be custom thus not be at that much of a discounted price.

Guys I'm confused on this exhaust thing. FI offers the following:

-test pipes resonated
-test pipes non resonated
-high flow cats 400 cell
-high flow cats 300 cell

I want to make sure I have this understood correctly. If I want something that breathes slightly better then stock and doesn't smell... I should opt for the high flow cats correct?

And if performance was more of a concern I outta get the test pipes correct?
And the only difference between resonated test pipes vs non resonated is noise correct? The non resonated being the noiser of the two?

OMG jeff search!!!!!!!!!!!! But yes you pretty much have it down on exhaust theory. non resonated pipes WILL rasp period. IMO i would stay away from them but what do i know.
