Default 11th Annual North Carolina Fall Z Car Show - Postponed

I’m sure we are guaranteeing a beautiful day tomorrow by doing this, but the 11th Annual North Carolina Fall Z Car Show at Michael Jordan Nissan tomorrow, October 8th, is officially postponed due to weather. The weather forecast has only become steadily worse over the last three days, and we think most participants have already reached this conclusion.

We do not yet have a new date, but we are exploring several options, possibilities include combining the show with the beach run in November, or another date at Michael Jordan Nissan. Feel free to weigh in with your preference.

We apologize for the delay, hopefully this will allow us to make this event even better,

Jason

Jason,

Thanks for letting us know. I will spread the word to the Emerald City Z Club members who were planning on attending.

Personally I would like to see the show rescheduled in Durham at Micheal Jordan Nissan. The only date (other than the beach trip) that I know of this fall that conflicts with another Z event is October 22, the date of the 4th annual Z show in Richmond, VA put on by the Z Car Association of Richmond. Keep us posted.

John

IMO, I like the idea of combining it with the beach run.

I know the date of 10/15 was thrown out, I have a wedding to be in on that day. I don't know of any other weekend dates from now until the beach run that "I" would have a conflict with.

I feel for you guys trying to make decisions taking into consideration weather, schedules, etc...

Robin

Thanks for the update. We discussed the Triangle/Triad Z show briefly at the Emerald City Z Club meeting last night. I think the consensus at our meeting was that we would like to see it rescheduled if at all possible. We had hoped to have as many as 8 cars going to the show.

Not to say that our club isn't interested in the beach trip, but the majority of our members are more interested in a one day show than a entire weekend event. Keep us posted.

John... chances are the Wilmington event would indeed still be a one-day event. There may be a little more opportunity to drive, and it wouldn't be as structured of a show as ours was last year - but I think it would certainly be worth everyone's time to come down.. whether we end up having a seperate show in the Triangle or not.

Stacy,

I am not saying that at least some of our members wouldn't participate in the beach event. People are interested in it. However, based on the discussions last night most would prefer a structured meet/show as opposed to less structured poker run/cruise. Plus a show would be over by say 3 pm. If the beach event goes into the evening people might consider spending the night. As you know its 2 hours to Wilimington from Greenville and 2 hours back. Most people didn't want to drive home late at night.

Quite frankly I think our club was disappointed that you guys didn't have a rain date worked out for the Triangle/Triad Show. I think we had several people preregister. There was a similar situation with the Marley Fund Show here last year where they gave a rain date, but then didn't secure the facility to have it so they had to postpone it to a different date. We still ended up having the largest club participation at that meet. That is also why we made sure this year when we had our show in June at Kinston Nissan that we worked out a rain date with the dealer for the next weekend just in case.

I think Carolina Z Club was open to the idea of having an actual show early in the day followed by a beach cruise/poker run. Is this just too much to do in one day?

That's what we are afraid of. Personally, not speaking for the club right now, it is my preferred option, but we have to remember that it is already dark by 7:30, and time will change before the Nov 11th event. If it were earlier in the year with still having 12 hours of daylight, I would not hesitate to have the show as intended from 8:00 - 12:00 or so, do awards and then head for the beach. People could then choose to do either part of the event or both. I am really concerned about the daylight though.

Other options, and again, I am throwing these out for comment, nothing official, are to do the show instead of the cruise on Nov. 12th, but people are already excited about the cruise, so I would rather not do that. Do the show on Satruday and the cruise on Sunday, but then we have the obvious problem of work on Monday, or to do the show on another day before or after the cruise. Problem is due to track events, other shows, holidays, etc, there are really no great options, which is kind of why there was not a rain date, there were too many if/thens to set somethign firm. A failure on our/my part I admit.

Thoughts ?

OK guys... its late, and I'm tired, but I think we really need to get something worked out on this... since this thread seems like it has the attention of members from a wide area, I'll start here...

I envision two events... the 'original' idea of a poker run, followed by your standard pig-pickin/burger/dog cook out... and a concourse-style car show/social. The trick is figuring out if we want to try to do them simultaneously, back-to-back, or do we choose between one or the other?

If we choose, then I say lets do a concourse show... and what I mean by that is simply a show seperated more by club (instead of marque) than by car generation. I would hope this would encourage more people from each club to participate (wouldn't it be great to have a few or more cars from each club?). We'd have the option of how we wanted to do awards, but my feeling is it would be more laid back, making sure everyone there had a chance to look at the cars instead of worrying so much about cleaning them for judges.

I really like the idea of the poker run, it adds a bit of fun, and its something many of us, especially in the Triangle Z Club, haven't done before... a change from the standard. Wilmington is a beautiful city, and dammit our cars were meant to be driven as well as cleaned, some more than others lol.

I personally think we can do both... but it would require a bit more of a time commitment than just one or the other. I'd like to start the poker run at 10:00 have it finished up at 12:00 then everyone park, socialize, and eat until they are ready to go home. We'll do some informal awards, give out t-shirts, figure out the winner of the poker run sometime around 3:00 ish... and then people can do as they please, stay and hang out, work on cars, play some more poker maybe... or those coming in from out of the area can head back if they want.

Lets not forget the main reason we decided to bring this event back... to bring some awareness back to the Wilmington area. What better way to do it (without dealer support) than to have a bunch of Zs running around town to different areas.

Anyway... those are my thought, feel free to elaborate on them or shoot them down as you see fit
