We dont know a lot about the area but are looking for somewhere close to a city (Charlotte or Wilmington) that has civilization and not in the woods. Nice properties and low crime.

Any input would be great here. We have looked at houses in Greenville, Charlotte, Wilmington, Fayetteville and many other towns.

We will be looking for houses in the 200K-250K range in a nice neighborhood.

Thanks for the input guys, and hope to be a fellow NC Z guy soon!! I am sick of storing my Z in the winter up here its been 4 years of owning a Z and putting it away from Nov-April.

Chad
Come on down! We can always use another Z guy in NC.

Hey Chad:

I'm a real estate attorney in wilmington. How far outside of the city are you looking for? If you live in Pender County or Brunswick County you can have a very nice neighborhood for the price you are looking with a new house but a 20-30 minute comute to the "city" of wilmington.

Chad,
Have you checked out the RTP area (Raleigh). It hasn't been ranked #1 place to live 6 out of the last 10 years for nothing.

Thanks for the input we would love to be around the Wilmington area! We have heard a lot of great things about the city!! I am a Real Estate Appraiser and hope to pick it up down there...

Mhoward1: Thanks for the input on Raleigh as well, we looked at a few towns just to the East of Raleigh as we have friends on the coast and dont want to go to far inland....

I am hoping that if I sell my condo up here, my wife and I will be down there sometime late summer...WOOHOO!!!

Thanks SO much for the input guys and I hope to meet some of you soon!!

If you don't mind constantly rising taxes, Charlotte is the place.

Chad,

No offense to Raleigh or Charlotte (I lived outside of Raleigh for a few years in the late 80s and early 90s and worked in Raleigh), but one of the main reasons I left was because of the traffic. Raleigh and Charlotte are nice places, but I prefer a smaller town atmosphere. Plus I grew up east of I-95.

I much prefer the areas around Wilmington or Greenville. Both are college towns and experiencing significant growth. Lots to do in both places, but a lot less traffic than the much bigger cities of Raleigh and Charlotte. Generally the cost of living is less too. Just my two cents.

I appreciate the thoughts, we live in a larger town in Maine and there is like 7,000 people in it!! VERY LOW CRIME, but taxes are really high and property values are ridiculous compared to there, I have a condo worth 250k!! I would rather have a house for 225K thats 2,400 Sq Ft and 2 car garage...I only have the one bay garage for the Z!! LOL

What about Goldsboro?? OR Fayetteville?

Niether place is a bad place to live, just not as nice as the Wilmington or Greenville areas in my opinion. Both Goldsboro (Air Force) and Fayetteville (Army and Air Force) are military towns. Fayetteville has more other business/industry and is located near I-95. Goldsboro is located in a more rural area and is closer to the coast. In either place you should be able to find a nice house for under 250K.

I'll be moving down to the Charlotte area in May from the D.C. area. Can't wait. Was down there house hunting this weekend. Didn't see alot of Z's compared to D.C. but i'm sure that will change. Have fun at your meet and post some pictures!
