Mountain Drive........May 13th....Hold the Date
The problem with Estes park is we will want to go over Trail Ridge which more then likely won't be open by then. I was thinking maybe we could do that one later in the season when the road is open. What do you guys think?
If we want something more north, would the route we took to Steamboat last time be a good one? Not sure if I would go all the way back through Poudre canyon or not, but at least the same route we took up there.
Or any others someone wants.

So I will ask everyone who is interested in going.
Would you like to take a cruise up to Steamboat? I was thinking of the same route we went last time which seemed to be great. My concern is if anyone needed to be back in town by a certain time. If we were to meet up at 8:30am, we more then likely wouldn't be back until 5-7pm sometime.
That drive is my best suggestion. I believe the roads will all be fine unless we get some cold weather.
Is this cool with all involved?

Lets meet at the Target at the Colorado Mills Mall at 8:30am on Saturday if that all sounds good.
Colorado Mills mall is located basically at I-70 & Colfax for those that don't know. We have met there for drives before.
When I have some more time, I will post up the route. I know last year we had lots of comments on how great it was. I know someone in particular that has a Brickyard Track that really enjoyed it.

+1 on holding off on the Estes Park drive until Trail Ridge opens (Memorial Day). Going all the way there won't be the same without snaking up trail ridge. The canyons on the way to Estes will be awesome to drive through!
Holy long drive! I'll opt to hitch a ride w/ Hung if he ends up going Brian lol. If not then I'll drive heheh. When you get a chance, PM me your cell # incase I need to call you.
I'll try an meet up with you guys at the Target to say hi. I won't be able to go on the drive, but it's been a while since I've met up with the Z crowd. I can show off my Poor (And Stupid) Man's wheel upgrade.

the only good way to Estes is thru 72 (PLENTY scenic & no cops & very little traffic)! I may get around to posting a cruise thru Swan pass though in the next couple of months as some very scenic views is in order
So we are on for 8;30am Saturday at the Super Target at Colorado Mills Mall. The weather looks good right now for Saturday, lets hope that holds true.
As for the route, here goes.
We will take I-70 west until Hwy. 131 in Wolcott. We then will head north on a very unpopulated Hwy 131 through Yampa, Oak Creek and on into Steamboat. This road has alot of twisties, then opens straight for miles and back to twisties. There were many times where the wild ones in the group were hitting triple digit speeds. I don't condone that activity though.
For the drive home we can leave that open as there is a variety of ways to make the return drive.
Hope to see many of you on Saturday.

Mudd brings up a good point. While I always enjoy raw speed whenever I race, I no longer feel our drives are the place for triple digit speeds any longer. Why? Because we're living on borrowed time; a state trooper or local radar patrol just needs to catch a whiff of what our cars can do and the whole pack is toast. Then there's the possibility that someone will overcook it and take themselves or some innocent bystander out. Or with the quality of driving on the roads today, will a Z driver be in any position to avoid a bad move by another driver while we're also driving at Warp Nine? Probably not. It's time to reevaluate the risk vs. reward proposition on our drives and reserve the unrestrainted celebrations of speed for the track!
Couldn't have said it better David...
Public roads can and will never replicate the feeling/thrill/high you get when you track your car on a safe and controlled road surface, which were specifically designed JUST for racing. I am on this cruise for the scenes and social aspects that our diverse backgrounds bring, because of this crazy car we drive.
I do not want anything to spoil our time together, so please drive responsibly, k?
