Default Route 50 through NV & UT

Anybody ever driven this route? What kind/condition is this road? This is considered the Pony Express Trail? I'm thinking about taking a trip to Arches Nat'l Park. I'd be leaving from the SF Bay area. It's the most direct route and probably more scenic then I-80 & 15 but will make the drive longer by about 1-1.5hrs.

Tks

Drove route 50 enroute to the Pacific Coast Runoffs many years ago. It can't have changed that much. It's mostly two/four lane county road stuff and traffic varied between 16-wheel rigs trying to avoid the road taxes and local traffic to just plain empty stretches of road. Mostly 55-65 MPH limits, although you will find areas you can really stretch the Z's legs (watch for local radar and chopper patrols, though). Very few good places to have a flat or run out of fuel. I even have a commemerative plaque from driving "the world's loneliest road" (and surviving).

Ha! Aside from tourist scare tactics, it really is a wonderful, memorable stretch of road from the West Coast. Parts of it do follow the renowned Pony Express Trail, but it has it's own trail of adventure in the 21st Century. Have a great ride and post up afterwards to let us know how your journey went!
