Anyone fought a ticket in Colorado?
I got a ticket going down the 24 today, on the way to Peterson. I was doing 60-65 in a 55, which I freely admit. However, the cop wroite 74 in a 55 on the ticket. I argued with him, but obviously, that does no good. He said his radar clocked me at 74. I call BS
So, I'm willing to pay for what speed I was going, but definitely not willing to pay for what I wasn't doing.
Anyone know how the system works here in Colorado?

Probably the same in most states. Get a lawyer to get it dismissed or plead down to a lower charge. I'm using tixnix right now for a ticket i got a few weeks back. It was $275. I don't know what's gonna happen, but i should find out soon. I hope it's worth it.

I would suggest calling a traffic attorney and discussing options. They usually don't charge for consultation. I called one about my ticket, but decided not to use him. Denver DA auto-reduced my ticket from 9 points to 2 by changing it from speeding to an "illegal left turn" charge.

As others have said, you can usually plea this down (depending on how good or bad your driving record is). Otherwise, you can pay an attorney to represent you for $400-500 and s/he may be able to get the charge reduced.
One thing in this thread to question: I don't believe that an officer has to show you your speed on their (laser, radar, etc.) and certainly not a printout. I'm not familiar with any law that says this is mandatory. Maybe someone else knows better (can we get Bamyi to comment)?

Mines a 4 point ticket, reduced to 2 points if I pay it within 20 calendar days. The point that pisses me off is that I was not doing 74. I mean, I have a fast looking sports car, I know it attracts cops. So, I generally drive 5 mph over the speed limit, sometimes 10, depending on what the rest of traffic is doing. Never 19 over the limit. And yet, this cop tells me I am doing 74 in a 55, when I know that I wasn't because I watch my speedo and my speed.
Anyways, thanks for the suggestions.

I received a ticket at Platte & Academy and went to courton the date the ticket stated. The DA did a driving history review and reduced to a 1pt broken headlight citation. I also heard other having the whole citation revoked but still had to pay the fine. One 35-40 y/o woman was cloked doing 37 in a 20 school zone and had it revoked but paid a $700ish fine. At least you don't have to worry about insurnace going up. I suggest go to court.
I would go to court and just see if you can get a lesser charge. Its pretty much the officers word over yours, they will win. I had a similar ticket where i wasn't in the wrong and still had to pay. Wrong place, wrong time. Unless you get an attorney and that will cost more then just paying the ticket. So go to court and plead with the judge.
I also just recieved a ticket, 72 in a 45 construction zone on I-25. Mandatory court appearance. I have fought one ticket in court as a "not guilty" plea and won, but it wasn't for speeding. All my others have been reduced at the courthouse and pled guilty to lesser charges like defective equipment. You could wait and see what the plea bargain offer is, and if you don't like it, then plead not guilty. You will be assigned a court date later in the month to appear and will face the officer who gave you the ticket before a judge. If the officer does not show up, the case is dissmissed and the ticket dropped. If he does, you need to have some evidence on your side, or the officer's side of the story will take precedence and you'll lose. Good luck.

Dave is right, the court have ruled that due to safety reasons, an officer does not have to show you the readout. And as for printout, well most hand held units don't have a memory card or any way to print out the reading.
