Default Registration Costs

Hey fellow Z owners, I was wondering if anyone wouldnt mind telling me what it cost them to get there Z registered at the DMV and what state they are in? I recently bought an 03 touring model and am still on the moving permit and am courious as to what this thing is going to cost me to get plates... I tried doing a search on this topic but wasnt able to find much.

Thanks

It varies by state. You probably won't finding it with a search as it's not a common question. Maybe one of the local NV guys can respond.

In CO the registration is based on the value of your car. So it varies even from Z to Z.

I just moved to CA so I can at least tell ya what I paid.

All told it was around $300 or so to register my car. That's about $250 at the DMV + another $50 for the smog stuff we need to have done here in CA. And it was another $40 for personalized plates.

However, CA has a "use tax" which is basically sales tax on a car you bought elsewhere. If you try to register a car in CA within 1 year of purchasing it in another state, they reem you for about 10%. On a $20k car this "tax" was like $2000. It's absurd.

I know someone who's been here for several months that's still using their out-of-state plates and reg on purpose...waiting for the 1-year period to expire. Then they're going to register.

The irony is that we bought our cars in Oregon....where there is no sales tax. And CA wants to collect it anyway. WTF.

I dont know about CA, but in CO thats illegal. If you become a resident your req. by law to move them over. Phu maybe you can back me up on exactly what that one is. Only way around that is if there is a fulltime residence thats still under the name of the name on the registration (Why i still have my VA plates). Gotta watch out on those ones, something if they wanted to nab you they might be able to. Not a primary offense obvisouly though, more just something to bug you about or tack on if your being stupid.

06 ZR Touring. I think the DMV fees are the same. Go check out the dmv site and it will give you an estimate using your vin.

It's not legal in CA either but if you have an address in another state, chances are you won't get caught.

Just went thru this with DMV in Denver since I just arrved. The rule is, you are required to have a CO driver lic if you are either: 1. employed in CO, 2. have residence in CO, or 3. stay in CO for 90 days straight. If you have a CO driver lic in your walet, then your car(s) must have a CO plate.

BTW, don't pss off your neighbors. If they complain about your car having an out-of-state plate, they will check.

Some states it's a set amount, some states it is based on taxable value and whether you paid sales tax at time of purchase. Brand new mine we're 600, 2nd year 400, 3rd year 250.....I am guessing your looking around 2 to 3 bills.

Just got my Richmond taxes...a tag is $39 from the state, which is not too bad. However, Richmond just raped me for $449 on my first year of taxes in the city . Crooks...absolute crooks.
