Default New Tein Basic Damper setup on the way.....

I decided not to get wheels, and just go for something that would do something other then look cool. So I ordered a Tein Basic Damper setup. Hopefully I will get it installed next weekend.

No real reason, just figured if I was gonna do it I would do the whole thing. I also like the idea of being able to adjust them. I know they don't have the adjustment capibility of the FLEX system, but this will work for me.

Much better to get a coilover for the Z anyways. Gotta drop the rear a little more than the front that's why. Springs are just for people who don't wanna spend a lot $$$ for suspension.

Ive actually had numerous suspension set-ups on various cars, and coilovers are definitely the better bang for the buck. I wouldn't go buying a coilover $1200 or more tho'. Eventually, your gonna have to replace them shocks with the lowering springs, and shocks cost $500 or more for all 4. With $200-300 springs + install, and shocks your not too far away from a very decent coilover which you can adjust the dampening as well, not just height.

First congrats again Will! I'm interested in some feedback about them.

Second, I disagree. I received my Hotchkis kit for $349 and you add the $700 I'll pay for Koni's. I feel, for my needs/wants, it will be a better set-up (Springs, Sways, and Struts) for $1050, installed by me. Just my two cents.
Everyone knows their needs/wants from their car. To say one is better than the other is just dumb.

I extremely disagree with this statement.

SERIOUSLY! Why do people come into Southwest and throw all this BS?! You don't agree? Move along! Nothing for you to see here. I can't wait til you have kids...I'm gonna show up at the hospital and tell ya how f'n ugly your inbred kid is. We're all Z owners here (OR SHOULD BE!) Support or say nothing.
Anyway I AM JEALOUS Devildog, this is my next upgrade!!!!! Let us know how it goes.

what a fool you are!!! This is a forum(threads are free for all for members), and Im a member and hardcore Z enthusiast, probably more than anyone I know. Its the only car I will ever own, since this Z I own now. For you to make those statements about me is foolish. You sound more like a traitor from the RSX forums. Someone started a Coilovers vs Springs issue, I gave my experience with the 2, which Ive had many, and I mean many suspensions over the past 10 years. And what are you talking about inbred, and kids? Hawaii ain't no hillbilly or redneck country. You need to learn more about forums and car enthusiasts, because what you just said is the most noobish thing Ive ever heard.

If you read my original post on here, its support, plain and simple. But 2 people mis-understood. That's the bottomline. I support every Z enthusiast no matter where they're from, or which trim, or year or color they own. I tried to help to say he made a wise choice over the springs. Gosh!!!! You need that energy against the Z haters.

Ummmmm....okay.....wasn't referring to your posts. You we're open minded and put some thought worthy contribution to the thread. It's the people that just say "your stuff sucks", "my car is better than yours" etc.... that I have had it with.

Devildog,
Are you going to install yourself? If you have access to some tools there, I'm sure we could find a step by step instructions. I think this is gonna be my next upgrade, can't wait to hear what you think.

There is an issue in that. Coilovers are NOT the best bang for the buck; they are one type of use for the buck. I’ve had every setup known to man on three very different cars as well, so a lecture on what’s good and not as good would be silly. I simply was referring to the fact that a 20 year experienced racer has skipped on the coilovers (they cost you more points in class racing, bad bad bad) and gone with a spring and shock setup he feels is very balanced for the Z. Now I’m no pro racer, but id tend to think that if someone with that sort of experience is willing to skip the coilovers id be interested to hear why. Coilovers are expensive, and the only real addition you get is the adjustment. If there is a cheaper setup out there that doesn’t need adjustment and works just as well, wouldn’t you see that as the preferred option? Or how bout the white konis, those you can adjust and they are still cheaper, and you didn’t have to buy coilovers, or if you want, later, you can buy some sleeve coilovers. Im rather excited to hear dogs thoughts on these suckers since I’ve heard a couple of mixed reviews but mostly rave reviews of the tein setup he has selected and when still trying to make up my mind over a shock/spring setup its intresteing to hear another CO guys thoughts. Oh, and trust me, i love the idea of coilovers, I’m a sucker for that in car adjustment, i wanted the JICs for a long while, I’ve had the flex's before. But when thinking about the cash, i knew there were better things i could do with my money that would be more productive on a track. I think one thing the CO group has started to do more and more is think about what mods will help most on the track for the lowest reasonable dollar. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s sort of beyond the realm of what you’re thinking. I don’t know if your ace or not and I’m not trying to say you dont understand that thinking but it’s just something to keep in mind when joining the southwest forum since that’s’ pretty big with us gear heads right now! Be well, thanks for your thoughts and hope your enjoying the nice weather! Let us know how it turns out devildog!

Oh and by the way, coilovers allow height change, not dampening. The shock handles that which you can buy without a coilover spring. I know you understand this I just wanted to clarify your post for those that don’t know the difference. The coilover spring is not the force of the rebound simply the height (and preload which can also effect ride). The force of the rebound is handled entirely on the shock, the in car adjustment systems have a motor that just turns the adjustment **** from in car. For example you can’t adjust height on a coilover setup while driving, have to take everything off (or mostly off) and adjust the collar. If you want height control from in car you need to go to an airbag setup (or extremely expensive airshock setup)

Oh, and Devildog, did you get the pillow ball option? I hope so since this is a great addition, takes a lot of stress off the suspension and makes it a lot easier to tweek! Still not bad if you didnt by any means, i just had a lot of luck with the built in pillow ***** on the flex system i had! Excited to hear your results!
