Your in sort of middle of nowhere colorado, its really really nice up there though, amazing views and such, plenty of outdoor things to do, not much for the Z lifestyle out that way though...

Durango is one of the nicest places in the state, but as Spivey said, it's kind of in the middle of nowhere when it comes to drags strips or road courses.

However, you'll have lots of mountain twisties for scenic/fun driving opportunities, and there are lots of off-roading trails out there if you're into that sort of thing. As for whether you'll need an SUV, I think it would be good to have one, if for no other reason than to be able to take advantage of some of the trails that are out there in the Durango/Telluride/Ouray vicinity.

That area of the state Durango/Ouray/Telluride is the most beautiful area of the state.
You will need an SUV............it snows a decent amount there in the winter. You are quite high up in elevation, so you need to expect it.

With that said, you are closer to Alb. NM and Phoenix then you are Denver. It's 6-7 long hours of rugged driving through all mountains to get to Denver.

If I could find a job there that paid me enough to live there I would move there in a heartbeat. It is quite pricey to live down there. Real estate down there is pretty steep in price.

sandia in albqq.

Grand junction has a gokart track they sometimes use for time trials. That one is near the airport.

If you want to make a long weekend out of it, a group of car clubs are trying to build a track to replace our old one 2nd creek. The new one is www.highplainsraceway.com

Durango is a gorgeous place to live. I'm with Mudd, I'd live there if I could get paid decent doing what I do. Of course, my second hobby outside the Z is backpacking and hiking. If you're not much into the outdoors, then you might be a little bored. But the scenery should make up for it, no matter what your hobbies are.

im a city/outdoor mix... i love the forest and green areas, i love hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, camping etc. ... however racing (mainly 1/4 mile) is huge for me, it takes up most of my spare time.. i would love to live in an area like that with a drag strip, haha.. but i think that might be askin to much

I drove my G coupe there from phoenix a few years back and people def looked at me like i was a city slicker. I felt outta place. I didn't see many sports cars around town. You get lotsa looks from the ladies though.

Being a young guy, I think I was 22 or so, i got a lot of confused looks like who's this guy and whats he doing here. All the hill billies in there pickup's were checkin the G out as if it was a lambo or somethin.

Its a cool place, very flagstaffy, but if you winter there I'd look into a beater truck.

Durango is a nationally renowned meca of mountain bike trails, racing and other biking activities -- and the hiking/climbing/fishing is top notch.

I was born and raised in Durango Colorado. A great place to be raised and grow up- but I gotta there and moved to Phoenix ASAP. The closest drag strip or dyno shop will be Albequerque NM. There aren't any Auto X events put on (but you can always do your own ). We all used to have somewhat of a group that used to hang out but they all sold their cars and got Duramax's. GET A WINTER VEHICLE.
