Default Winter Beater

Well the snow has finally come to Denver. For (only!) the second day this season I reverted to driving my 'old' car, a 2001 Integra, equipped with some solid snow tires. The ground clearance is only a little better than the Z, but the Teg handles great on icy/snowy streets.

What do all of you drive in the winter? Do you put your Z on mothballs for the winter, or drive it when weather permits? Careful with the "what do you mean?" questions, AZ folks -- we are likely to get extremely jealous if you chime in that way!

My winter beater is a '95 200SX Se-R. Changed over last weekend to Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice tires. It'll get through just about anything (unless I get high-centered in the REAL DEEP stuff)!

My wife's car; an '05 Scion tC. I stored the Z for 5 full months last winter. This year will be the same unless snow ends earlier than it did last season.

Well I'm not to worry about it this year. LOL The Z has been parked since I left. When I was home for Colorado winter weather I would drive the Z when I could. If I couldn't the wife & I would carpool with here '04 Outlander XLS AWD suv. Does pretty good too.

However like to mention its getting cold here in Kuwait. Highs are in the mid/high 70's and reaching the low 60's at night.

I drive my G, with snow tires.

If things get really bad, I drive my wife's G35x, with AWD and snow tires. And if they get really, really bad, I stay home.

The only problem I have with my G and snow tires, is if the snow is too deep. The traction is not a problem, but I become a snow plow, and push the snow around. Not the most ideal.

If it's going to snow I avoid driving all together, but if I have to get somewhere (like work), I typically get a rental.

On the other hand, if the snow "catches me unexpectedly", the seasonal snow tires I put in, along with easy-cruising - should get 'da-Z & I home safely.

My beater is a 2001 Escape. 4 wheel drive gets me through any snow situation and it's great for hauling big stuff. I drive it whenever there is anything frozen on the road.

My 'winter beater' for the cold and snowy day after Thanksgiving is an '08 Infiniti QX56. It's a press vehicle I'm using for a week and talk about plush! Hope my buns can stand it when I have to give up those heated leather seats. LOL

This is my winter beater......
This was this weekend on a quick road trip to Ohio. Nothing like driving in snow with summer ultra high perfomance tires!
P.S. not me in the second picture.

Well its good to see that people are doing what it takes to get around in the winter time! This is the longest that I've gone w/o getting behind the wheel of my Nismo since I got her. I'm jonsin like a freakin crack adict! Looks like it'll be nice enough tomorrow afternoon that I can get a little fix.

That QX56 is a PIG, David, but I'm sure it's comfy! Maybe not 70 degrees comfy (sounds pretty rough, Robert!), but comfortable enough, in a pinch!

I took my Z out for a spin yesterday and had a great time! We need to take advantage of every break in the weather to get our fixes. LOL

As for the QX56, it's no more a PIG than a Expedition, LX470 or other full size SUV out there today. Infiniti has a good contender in that market segment, with better power then most of its rivals. If only there were a HD chassis option- for those of us with racecar towing needs!

I wish I could have a winter beater. I'd move back to Colorado from AZ any day.
