David: Count me in!!!
I will also check with my other "Z" friends, and see if they can also make it.

Joel: Thanks again for all the help at PPIR!

To All Others: The "Z" Avitar is not exactly the "Z" I had in mind, but don't see how to enter a Custom Avitar (Z06)

Uh oh! Look out for the 'Vette's! Joel knows what I am talking about...

In case there is any confusion, please take the above in a humourous manner that it was intended.

Now that you have my curiosity sparked,
let me in on the Joke about the Vette's???

And in the little I know Joel, I'm certain it was only meant in a humerous way!!!

At the last track event I attended before I moved to California, Joel and I were both in HPDE4/TT group, which is an unlimited passing gtroup. This was at Miller Motorsports park, a 4.2 mile, 26 turn course, with some really high speeds. Also in HPDE 4 was a group of Vettes from a specific shop that sponsors Vettes. Most of these guys were nice and courteous, and good drivers. Unfortunately, there were probably about 4-5 of them that were, to put it bluntly, a$$holes. They would pass in really tight corners where it was obviously unsafe, without point-bys, and do various other 'bad' things on the track.

Fortunately, the HPDE director for NASA dealt with the situation pretty well, and came up with a good solution. So, now I give Joel a hard time about Vettes, because both he and I were particulary perturbed by the bad behavior, but he even more so, given that he is a NASA instructor, and that was one of his first weekends acting as a full instructor, so he had a lot on his mind. The situation with the Vettes didn't help, although in the end, we all had a great weekend. So now, it is kind of a joke to say 'lookout for the Vettes!'

As an aside, I realize that this group was just a small sample of drivers, and was not representative of the majority of Vette drivers. there are jerks in every type of vehicle.

I really appreciate you taking the time to inform me of some of the reasons we need to practice respect and safety, regardless of what you choose to drive.
It's really too bad a few idiots needed to lessen others enjoyment of such a fine experience.
Rest asshured (no pun intended) that the group of Vette's I drive with, are looking to experienced drivers like Joel, and I'm certain yourself, to share your experience with us to make us all better drivers and to make the overall experience for everyone as enjoyable as possible.
Our group consists of HPDE2 and 3 drivers, and at this stage, we know we really know very little about running an $80,000 to $100,000 Sports Car on a race track.

I still think about how much fun it was ON the track last time...
The drive down there.. going sideways on I-25 at 60Mph in my Z with only 2,500 miles on it... not so much fun.
I am going to monitor the situation for a bit more... I REALLY want to do this.
Its just simply not an option to get to Pueblo if there is any snow on the roads(lesson learned)
So, if anything I will fill a spot that no shows, or just bring down the group price more.

Thinking about what might be good to add. Maybe less of the braking exercises and add an exercise where we try to break the back end loose... to get a good feel for that "tipping" point.

Very good idea about the exercise. Hope you can make it down safely.

Dave,

I'm really glad to see that you are attending this event and that you have other Corvette pilots that are interested in participating! It's true that I have not-so-great experiences with Corvettes, and they do tend to make my left eye twitch uncontrollably. But riding with you and learning of your desire to be a better, safer, (and by consequence) faster driver, you've got me on the road to sane Corvette-driver recovery!

Any time you can get seat-time is a good time to be had. I'm certain all of you will enjoy this event, especially with David Muramoto at the helm.

dave--

i want to get the thumbs up or down before i started this project--i would like to set up a camera mount in the car--do you have any objections to this at the class leader (i ask this because the general rule is to clear everything loose from the interior).

Dave- it depends on how you end up mounting the camera. If it's a dedicated mount that won't fall off (no suction cups please) and has a strap to secure it (in addition), I think you'll be fine. Using one of the mini-cameras on your ZR is also a good possibility.

its a design i got from 350zfrenzy--it'll be very secure. two lengths of square tubing that clamp (with wingnuts and lockwashers) to the headrest of the passenger seat--then there's an actual Bogen/manfrotto camera mount attached to this. the camera is a pretty small Canon ZR40.

check it out

Question

Hey folks,

This is one of the "Vette" guys Do we know what time we'll be done at the end of the day?

I'm really looking forward to this. I think this class will touch on some things that some of the other HPDE courses don't address.

Thanks.

We have to be off the track by 5 PM. Some of us will go to dinner afterwards before heading back to Denver. BTW- PM me with any specific topic you'd like covered during the course.
