Phoenix area Z's, up for a run?
We are meeting this Saturday (11th) @ I-17 and Bell rd. in the Park n Ride lot on the southwest corner of that intersection. We will plan on pulling out by 9:15 am. Head north on I-17 and the first stop will be the Rock Springs cafe at about 10 - 10:15 for some GREAT pie to hold us over til' lunch. Pull out of Rock Springs by 11 am and head north to the Prescott turnoff and then go east up toward Strawberry/Pine for some "spirited" mountain driving as we find our way over to Payson for lunch by 1 pm. Leave Payson by 2:30 pm and head UP the rim to Woods Canyon Lake for a potty stop and turn around point. Head back down the rim for Phoenix and arrive back in the valley by 5:30 or so.
Whatcha' think? C'mon, lets show off these Z's to the folks up north and have a great day of driving. Regards, Jim

We're going to turn this into a poker run too! Each driver pick one card @ each stop and get one free card in Payson and the best hand in Payson gets either a free tank of gas or a paid lunch at Chili's in Payson
We also want to have opportunity for a couple of photo shoots along the way and I will provide a free 8x10" photo/file (your choice) to all participants on the run of a group shot.
The only thing I ask is that ya'll help me a little bit with the expense involved. I would guess the gas fill up or lunch will run between a low of $10 to a high of 25.00. The photo's and edit time etc., probably another $30 to 50.00. All I would ask for is $2.00 a car. I have no idea how many will be coming, but if we see 10 cars, that will only be $20 and so I will make up any difference out of my pocket in cost beyond that. So far, we have four Z's that have answered the call.
I'm setting this up because I really want to see a 350 Arizona group get going. I had a friend drive his 350 over from Colorado last week and we wanted to have a good representation at Firebird and no one else showed up. His statement was "There sure isn't much involvement or interest on the part of 350 owners here in Arizona is there?" That stung me and so this is why I am in hopes that this will kick off some 350 community activity. Not really thinking about a 350 "club", but more along the lines of a group that would meet (monthly?) for runs. Now, if in time someone would pick up the ball and run with it to establish a club, I would like to be a part, but my interest is more in an informal group of Z enthusiasts, out "On the road again!"
The G35 group already seems far ahead of any Z group activity here in the valley and I would guess there are far more 350's than G35's out there. Let's give this our best shot and try for a good turnout and a great day "On the road again!" Regards, Jim

Jim, I hope that you generate some interest in a drive. If you can get a good enough turn out, I will gladly drive my Z down there again for a future drive. There's no way I could do it this weekend. I know it is much quicker there, then here, I'd love to drive down again.
If anything else goes on during the week, when I am usually down there, you should let me know. I usually am in CO on the weekends, but there during the week.

Well, due to the resounding lack of interest (two cars, maybe) and the weather that has moved in, I am forced to cancel the run I had planned for this Saturday the 11th here in Phoenix.
Perhaps another time or another place or..... It seems that my friend from Colorado was at least partially correct when he said "it seems like there just isn't much interest on the part of Arizona Z drivers for any activities is there?" After all was said and done I was in for over $100 out of my own pocket (one free tank of gas, a free 8x10" print to each, one free breakfast and a free lunch plus I made the 300+ mile drive yesterday to nail down the route) just to help make this happen and with just two cars, it wasn't really economically feasible for me to try and pull it off, and then the weather turning bad, well, I hope you understand. Regards, Jim

I know what you mean about the lack of interest. I am trying to get my hubby more interested in the Z and meeting others. I think it's his personality. He's not much of a people person. I think it would be cool to get together, but the Z is his primary vehicle. Sometimes I feel like a phony posting on "Z" boards, but it's all really interesting to me.
I have a bridal shower tomorrow, so I wouldn't have been able to go either. The hubby wouldn't let me take the car for that far of a trip anyway. I just have to convince him to get involved.
