Default So Call dyno day recap results..

Let me preface the results as very susprising and somewhat disturbing, but here they are. Make your own conclusions. My thanks to the 14 guys who braved the rain storms to get to Powertrain as committed. Your why I get out to the meets at all. Simply a great caring bunch of guys.

The conditions were very wet and less then ideal. All runs done in 4th gear with 6 mt and 3rd 5at. on a Dynojet in ground dyno.at sea level. Std whp rating were used

Conclusions
Nissan 350z seem to dyno all over the map as stock. I think we dynoed some exceptional ones

Get a good baseline dyno at the beginning and you might be happy with the results and if your not; you can always sink a ton of dollars into it.

Independent questions should be addresses to the owners of the cars. all mods were as stated on the questionary. ( Secret mods not withstanding)

Most of the guys felt that we would return in the future after a little more tweeking and with more favorable conditions So stay tuned for So cal Dyno II.

Hey Ron,

Thanks for organizing everything and for posting the recap of all the runs. After all the runs on Saturday it would seem that the best thing you could do to your Z to gain hp is to leave it the hell alone! Either that, or just add a Nismo wing... it got Phalocke 245 hp!

remember jeff@preformance had headers and cams and only got 265.2

Hey Ron,

If you can, include the wheel size. It plays a part on the power output too. It may give people some idea of either going 17's, 18's or 19's.

Ron, thanks for keeping track and organizing the results. Han, thanks again for swapping shoes with me for the runs.

I'm going to redyno there in a week or two with some higher octane since I couldn't get a full plot due to monster pinging. Peak hp is at 6300 but he shut my run down at 6k.

Unhappy

It's fair to say , other then the stock guys; we were all unhappy with the results of the dyno. Yes some guys were running 19's ,. some 18,17 and some even swithed their tires, to do better. We ran what we ran. i WAS TEMPTED to not post the results at all, but what would be the point, the numbers are the numbers. Having better numbers don.t make you a better person or get you a better place in line at the supermarket or even get you a date with a super model (other then maybe a import model)

The actual dyno sheets will be posted by one of the other guys on this thread or the other.

Peak hp is not everything -- I don't get why you guys are all bent out of shape over it. Mods do work with appropriate tuning and conditions.

Heavy wheels and tires make a big difference, i've been saying this for a while on this forum.

Here's my chart compared to Han's stock Z (same rear wheels for the run)

15-20 rwtq across the chart.

Ron> You're right, the dyno is a tuning tool, we're not measuring manhood.

i was going to go wingless but after seeing those dyno numbers, i think i just might have to go with the nismo wing.

How much are they going to charge you for a run for redynoing?

I finally found that damn bolt that I broke on the lower plenum, I'd like to get my car on that dyno.

Powertrain was great. They really apprieciated our business. They charged us $50 right out of the box, nothing was said about having enough guys or charging more. We did start with 6 guys at 9Am and ended with 14 guys doing itby the end.. I 'm sure our group is good to go for $ 50 next as well. No question asked.

Here are some dyno graphs. The first is of my base dyno 1 year ago vs. the best run from this Saturday.

The second graph is of both above runs plus the dyno run I did in June with a cracked plenum. I actually got better numbers on that run than on the one from Saturday with a new plenum and the eManage!! Everyone who was there on that day was complaining because they said the numbers were about 10-15hp low.

Looking at all 3 runs, pretty much the only thing that really changed was my A/F. REALLY confusing. Anyway... here's the graphs. All are SAE corrected.

Chris, you're running too rich. The ideal air/fuel ratio used to be considered 12:5. These days, people are saying 12:8 to 13:2 is ideal for producing power. You're running about 11:5 and dipping to 11:0 at peak range and that can actually decrease your power.

You are definitely low on power considering you have the Kinetix cats. The plenum would make a very small gain. Ditto the popcharger. Overall, the results look pretty consistant. I bet if you tweaked the air/fuel a bit, you would find the extra power you should be seeing with those mods.

Yah 11.0 are the #'s usually associated for TT's and SC's.

Well, that's where all my confusion is. When I did all the tuning on the eManage and logged my A/F it was at 12.4 to 12.7 across the board! I did several 3rd gear WOT runs and here's the graph showing my A/F at that time (pink line):

According to the dyno on Saturday, I'm running mid 11's to high 10's??? Nothing changed between then and now on my eManage so I don't see how I could be running so ruch?

That is wierd. Three possibilities: 1) your wideband sensor results are wrong, 2) the sensor at the dyno shop is wrong or 3) something is infact different between your test and the dyno run.

I would start by doing a new wideband sensor test and see if you still get 12.5. If you get the 11s, then possibility three is likely. If you get 12.5 then either possibility 1 or 2 is likely. If that's the case, you might want to dyno at another shop to rule out one of the two.

Good luck.

I'm using the stock enthusiast rims:

Standard 17":
Alum Alloy
F-17x7.5
23.259lbs
R-17x8
24.140lbs

Here are the other stock rim stats:

Touring 18":
Alum Alloy
F-18x8
R-18x8
26.565 lbs

Track 18":
Super-light Alum Alloy
F-18x8
18.188lbs
R-18x8.5
18.629lbs

You'll notice that Phalocke's touring Z put out the higest stock rating on the heavy 18" wheelers. Time to find out what's he really running besides the spoiler .
