Since we are onto a new page, I will post the info again... Please bring your FRS radio. Let's set it to 7-0.

Epicenter: Angeles Crest
Date: 5/22/05 (Sunday)
Time: Meet at 9:00am and leave at 9:30am
Meeting place:
Ralphs Grocery Co
521 Foothill Blvd, La Canada Fltrdg, CA 91011
Phone: (818) 790-0584

Friendly reminder:
Angeles Crest is one of two highways in So. Cal. that has a zero tolorance. Cops can cite you for going 1 mph on that stretch of road.

Also, please do not tailgate your fellow Z'ers and give plenty of distance inbetween cars.

If someone is left behind the traffic light, we will stop and wait for you so don't worry! to that effect, if you are toward the end and know that someone got stuck behind a light, radio it in please.

OK I have good news and bad news...

First the bad news...I won't be albe to make the run Sunday after all

A family thing came up and I must attend.

Now the good news, well good and bad actually...

I ran Angeles Crest today on the Harley and here are some notes

First of all make sure the route is open all the way to Wrightwood...there were signs that the road to Wrightwood was closed but we ignored them...silly us....43 miles up the road we had to turn around and head back...it was a beautiful ride though

If the route is open all the way by Sunday here are some things you might consider

Right after you make the turn where you can see the snow on the mountains there is a great place to stage a picture on the right side of the road...look for it...I think it will give you the best photo op

After you pass the 6000 ft elevation point there are a lot of rocks (big rocks about the size of 2 footballs) in the road...be VERY CAREFULL and leave lots of room between cars...if they are still in the road, the only way you will avoid them is to be in the oncoming lane...again, please be carefull...these rocks will cause major damage if you hit one

In addition to the rocks there are many areas where the melting snow has put running water across the road, again leave space and watch your speed and you should be fine, dirty but fine

After we reached the point where the road was closed we headed back down to Angeles Forest and took that into Palmdale. That road was squeeky clean all the way.

Whatever you do, I hope you all have a safe and fun run and hopefully I'll see you on the next one.

Pat - How far up did you encounter the running water - before or after Upper Big Tujunga/Newcomb's Ranch/tunnel? I'm planning to start with the group, but I will be heading from the Crest to Willow Springs via Angeles Forest at some point during the drive. There's a NASA race weekend there I want to check out.

glad to see you still have your z scott, i thought they were going to crush it.

Sorry, I'm out. I have to work all day. This really sucks b/c the turnout sounds huge and I wanted to meet Sr. Panza, as well as other people. Well, maybe I will come to the meet before the run starts just to say hi.

That sucks! I was looking forward to meeting you too. Hopefully you can make another one in the not-so-distant future. I think the list is pretty long for a canyon run too. Are they usually this big?

Ah! I was thinking about that. I imagined like 20-25 Z's actually. It is rather early in the morning though. It goes to show, that SHO-TIME is an early riser!

I'm going to come for the pre-run meet. It will force me to get out of bed and go to work earlier rather than later.

If it were a canyon run I'd do it and leave in the middle, but this run is going to take too much time, plus it sounds like we're ending up in Palmdale which is way too far from downtown LA.

See ya at 9!

9 is early? If I had it my way, we'd be leaving at 6am.. but then no one will show up. hahaha. When I go on runs in small groups, I leave home at 5am.

Don't remember where the tunnels are but everything went to hell right after we passed the 6000 ft elevation marker...didnt get much further up the road than that ...maybe a few more miles...total 43 miles from the Shell station to the closure...hope it's open all the way for you guys on Sunday...have a safe run and watch that spacing

Oh shoot.... I can't find my spare FRS radio... sorry to whomever that I promised I was going to bring one but I can't find it where I had thought it'd be. It's possible that I let someone borrow it and forget to get it back? hmm... I wonder where it went.
