I think i read about sushi nozawa, is he like the soup **** of sushi?? I heard it was good sushi, but he serves you what he thinks and stuff like that. I'll have to try it someday, i think the LA times reviewer didn't like it (attitude), but said there's always a line out the door.

Most of the better sushi chefs are stubborn as hell. That's b/c they know they have the skills and experience to make the best sushi. For e.g., if you get Omakase course, the chef will tell you how to eat it... for most of omakase sushi, you won't use soy sause but the chef will have his own special sause for it. And if you were to reach out for the soy sause bottle, that's plain rude... that's like telling him that you think he doesn't now how to make sushi.

it's easy enough to blow $$ at Kappo Seafood already... if you ate till you drop, man, I can't imagine how much $$ it will be. Last I went, I spent $100 per person for lunch... and I didn't eat THAT much. But the food is goooooood!

Default best sushi places in LA

I lived in west LA for the past 4 years (i went to ucla) and by far the best place s for sushi were (in no particular order):

1) En Sushi - santa monica and barry ($$)
2) Tengu - westwood village near denny's across the street from Palomino ($$$)
3) California Roll Factory - santa monica and barry ($)

I would highly recommend all of those places....Tengu is a little pricey but they have an awesome happy hour (half price on sushi)

Good Eating....

I just moved back to OC and was wondering if any of you guys/girls knew of any good places for sushi down here in the OC

i never really saw difference in prices between the two. i know some places may have a lunch special but not alot do it. maybe everybody may be brave enough to go omakase. we can find out exactly how many people we expect and tell the place we want to go have omakase with anywhere between 6-10 dishes. what do you think sho. oh yeah to answer your question dinner fine with me

Koji's at Block at Orange is pretty good. I like to have it with their shabu shabu

Also, Sushi Mac in Sherman Oaks (also in Beverly Center) is great and cheap eats, try their dynamite roll- awesome

Sushi Saurus in Belmont (Long Beach ) on 2nd street is great, great atmosphere, very nice help, also priced well for fun and trying everything

Mori sushi on the corner of Pico and Gateway in Santa Monica is by far the best traditional sushi around. It's much better than Matsuhisa or Nozawa.

The price is expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. The quality of fish and the skill level of the sushi chefs are much higher than what you get at Matsuhisa. I'm not a big fan of Nozawa, because the chef there is overrated. The rice is terrible there too.

Mori Sushi's dining experience is on par with the 40,000 yen per person sushi restaurants in Japan. I know because I've been to more than a few in Japan. If you think about it that way, Mori is quite a bargain.

But remember, it is a traditional sushi restaurant, so don't expect to get california rolls and dynamite-jalapeno-cream cheese rolls. I wouldn't recommend ordering them either if you want to stay on the chef's good side.
