Sushi Isshin in Westwood is probably the best sushi I've ever had. I'm a regular there and I've met the owner, I am somewhat acquainted with 2 of the waitress / hostess girls, they are partners in the restaurant ownership and they are actually the owner's daughters.
Anyway, their sushi chefs do some insane prep work that no other sushi chefs do, their salmon is hands down the best anywhere, and if you ask the sushi chef what is good, he will tell you exactly what to get. They have an incredible contact for buying fish, and one of their guys is down at the fish market every morning at like 4am or something. The chefs even come in hours before their shift starts to start prep work, just to go that extra yard.
It is really authentic, not americanized at all. You guys should check it out.

Is this the sushi place right next to the large movie theatre? If so, I've been there and you're right the sushi is excellent. I have an ex girlfriend who went to UCLA. Westwood was fun!

these daugters, are they hot?
Best sushi I've had in LA has been at R23-- it's in the Loft District just east of Litlle Tokyo. Consistent, high quality, excellent service. Kinda pricey, but well worth it. Not a large place, and sort of difficult to find, but a real winner in my opinion.

Oh yeah, I used to go there a lot but my old roommate Ernest went there almost daily. They named a roll after him, "Mt. Ernest Roll" it's REALLY good too!
