OT Best Traditional Sushi in so cal
Okay so like the title states I am looking for suggestions for the best sushi restaurants in so cal. preffered l.a. area.
so far my favorite is Echigo in west la.
Echigo
12217 Santa Monica Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90025
310-820-9787
about $50-$70 per person for Omakase
Chef Toshi apprenticed with Sushi Sasabune's Chef Nobi. The warm rice sushi he serves is excellent. Definitely reccomend sitting at the sushi bar and have Omakase (chef's choice). Some of my favorite pieces are ankimo, toro, amaebi, uni (yes i like it). I've already tried Matsuhisa & Nobu, but those places are way to expensive.

There's this place off of Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City that is really good. I'll edit the name in when I remember it. The owner's name is Katsu and while I can't recommend one thing in general I can say that I haven't tasted anything bad in that place. My favorite is the spicy scallop hand roll. The place is pretty low-key and not as expensive as some of the 'high profile' sushi places around town.

Anywhere but the San Gabriel Valley for sushi. Chinese chefs are great at Chinese food but not Japanese.
So are you Chinese or Japanese?
I'm Laotion!

There's a great hole in the wall udon and ramen place on Santa Monica BLVD and I think it was Sawtelle.

I'm not sure what you mean by "traditional" but if you mean authentic...
Of course, Matsuhisa and Nobu are good like you said.
Sushi Sushi in Beverly Hills (very small and reservation recommended if you are a large party)
Seafood Kappo in Torrance (pretty pricey but good/ fresh sushi)
Sushi Roku in Pasadena had pretty good sushi too (not too authentic, rather trendy)

Kappo Seafood in torrance has had the best tasting fish especially the toro, really good, smaller servings but really good quality, fresh ground wasabi, but $$$. Sen Nari and Wakatake in torrance are great for larger slices, fresh, and they serve your typical rolls and other easier to eat alternatives. Azuma in Santa Barbara was great too, a former apprentice of Nobu worked there a few years ago and his omakase sushi/sashimi dinner was one of the best i ever had.

a friend of a friend also owns a place called Toro in the IE, I think it's in Corona or Chino Hills-area... pretty chill, nice cuts.
and its sucks whenever you have a bad "sushi" experience... never had to pay for sushi at Asakuma so don't know what it's like to feel ripped off there. =P
Sushi Roku is just okay in my opinion (cute servers though)... same for Katana since they're owned by the same peeps (also very cute ladies).
For peeps downtown that want late nite, cheap sushi... try Hamekawa... open to midnite on weekdays and very cheap prices. Not an ambiance place, but good after a late nite at work.
Nobu in NY is great... miss eating there.
