Default Good or Bad Idea?

I looking to get a Z, but i'm not sure if i should keep my search within California, or if i should search out of state. I'm a new resident of SoCal as of Feb 2005, and have yet to register my New York car to California, so I've yet to go to the DMV. So my question is, would it be wiser to buy a car in state or is it relitively easy to register a car from out of state to California? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Zack

It would be eaisier just to buy in Cali, You would get better prices and save money on the registration, Plus you might get more Z for the buck in Cali. Cali people tend to hook up their z's and you can probably get a nice fixed up z for a good rate.

That's what I would assume, I'm sure I can find what I want in Cali, this place has everything!

Where ever you buy, make sure it has all the stock emissions stuff, even if it's in a box, you never know what the Air ***** will do next and you might need it in the future regardless of what laws are on the books now.

oh ok, what do all the f/i guys do for smog? Surely they can't pass it with running all that fuel and such.

When you buy a car new, you have 5 years (with the current laws) and then it goes into a bi annual test that is a sniffer on rollers and visual inspection in some places, in others, no rollers, but I imagine over time, everyone will have rollers.

The guys that have FI now are in one of few camps.

1) Current CARB cert, such as the Stillen and Vortech
2) They are hoping for CARB cert in time, APS is supposed to be close and when JWTs TT comes out, it will also have a CARB cert.
3) Returning it to stock
4) Selling it out of state
5) Paying someone off.

There are other issues with making illegal changes, currently the cops can search for non CARB mods with very little probably cause and can write you a fix it ticket.

Lots of people run all kinds of illegal stuff, it's a personal choice.

I am modding my car with only CARB certed parts (where applicable, non emission parts like cat back exhaust, suspension etc. don't need a cert) so I can stay legal, not have to hassle with the law or hard smog checks and support those companies that take the time and money to get their parts certed. Something in the end I believe helps the industry by keeping the Air ***** off our backs.
