Default Good places for spirited run near Irvine / OC area?

Sometimes I like taking the Z out for some late night runs, but are there any nearby canyons or nice places to cruise with some twisties in the Irvine / OC Area? I'm right off of Alton & Jeffrey.

Thumbs up Santiago Canyon

Take the Santiago Canyon off the 241 toll near where Jamboree ends at Irvine Park. Follow Santiago Canyon till you get to the El Toro Roadhouse where all the bikers park and make a left and then take Trabuco Canyon till u come into Rancho Santa Margarita. Its a nice tight canyon run but just watch your speed.
You can also take an alternate off road about half way into Santiago Canyon called Silverado Canyon which is very tight and wines it way back onto Santiago Canyon.

Thanks fellas!

I'm getting really excited! I'll try those two on Friday and possibly Sunday night. Any other suggestions?

+1 to Santiago Canyon, Silverado Canyon and Ortega Hwy.

Becareful when you take the Silverado cut, not only is it tight with blind turns but there are plenty of houses that pretty much stick out into the road.

I'm going to try and head out to Santiago Canyon on Friday night. Will it be dangerous at night?

At one point, Santiago Canyon Road was the most dangerous road in SoCal on a per mile basis =) PCH beats it out cause its so much longer.

There is a point where when you are going into the canyon (I think its like 3-4 major turns/sweepers in the run) you will come to a long straight away that is slightly declining with a medium dirt shoulder on the right and a sharp drop. Try not to pass people there, because it has 2 blind corners at either end and I can think of 3 fatal accidents I've witnessed personally on that spot over the years.

(Best friend lives in Silverado, and I've probably driven that road over 2,000 times through high school to now)

Cook's Corner is a nice spot to pull over at and catch a beer. Just watch the horse s*** as you walk through the parking area =P

Also, be warry of sheriffs near the ends of the months. They need to keep their quota's up =P

Turnbull is good, but much to short to bother driving up there. You could go back and forth, but might as well drive somewhere else.

not to sound like an a-hole and nothing personal but...
bad form... please don't broadcast touge runs...

pretty soon you'll see hotshot 16 year olds crashing into the canyon and that's how stricter laws come to pass because the mayors son killed himself.

again, nothing personal just take it to PM.

I went through Santiago Canyon one late Friday evening and it was pretty clear. I do advise cruising through it to check for traffic flow, loose rocks/dirt, cops hanging out, etc. before taking a spirted run. There are a few blind turns and inclines, so its best inspect before you wreck, you'll thank yourself for doing so.

Be VERY careful on Ortega Hwy. Its a popular place for bikers and at least one bike a week doesnt make it out of there.

Santiago has tons of cops on it now. They did an article in the Register on it and they hang there now.

honestly, there are no good runs in Irvine. Ortega is closed at nights now and that was sub par at best. Don't be like all the other OC people and not want to drive somewhere for a good road. turnbull is nice but very short and 1/2 of it is in a residential area.

Can you recommend any other places then? I'm getting a little discouraged about heading out to Santiago now

What about at night? Has anybody witnessed any cops stalking out and actually waiting? I don't plan to speed since safety is priority, but I also do want to have a fun and go for a little 'spirited' run.

I've taken Santiago plenty of times now since I work in Lake Forest and live of of Jamboree and Irvine Blvd. The times I've seen cops are rush hour times (4p-6p) and on weekends but don't quote me on that. I usually cruise through the area and take in the scenery.

'spirited driving' and 'irvine' should not be used in the same sentence.
