I just printed out the Acrobat Page from the http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/im/roadside.pdf just in case. Gonna place the packette in my car with the "voluntary" phrase highlighted just in case if I'm forced to get tested. Just an idea.

I just read the pamplet and I quote:
The license plate numbers of vehicles whose operators declineto participate in the Roadside Inspection Program are recorded and entered into a laptop computer for later analysis...

in other words you're screwed.

Cool ... a government sponsored dyno!

Look like those ramps would high center many of our cars on them anyways - looks like you drive forward though them until the rear wheels catch the rollers.

Wonder what that means?

1998 - Started RSD (remote sensing device) testing to quantify those that refuse
So much for voluntary.

The figures show that about 40-50% of people fail with about 25-40% for emission failures but the survey is stratified toward older cars.

Just remember "Clean air is good for everyone" or !MANTENER EL AIRE LIMPIO ES UN TRABAJO PARA TODOS!

It means that next time you need to register you get a MUST provide Smog Certificate as part of you registration.

And probably a "watch out for this guy" on your computer record and more pull overs

I'm getting more and more happy that my company is moving us to Austin next year. I am so sick of this California crap.
I am all for a cleaner environment but if you do this go after all.
Start with the ships, then the trucks, the motorcycles, the freaking 70's and pre cars....all these produce way more polution than a modified import build after 2000

I wonder if you don't decline, do they still record your license plate? I have turbos, so they would know I'm not street legal in a second! I wonder if it would be better to just go for it and look like you have nothing to hide?
