Default Fellow Z Drivers Beware Please Read

my buddy was by Autolink in 626 area today when he spotted a CHP smogging mobile present maybe 3 blocks West around that area. ive always heard of these things but i always thought it was an urban legend. So yeah for the 626 Z guys or anyone who ventures towards the Temple City, Arcadia, El Monte area just take caution on the import hatin' law enforcement with that mobile CHP smogging unit. they knabbed a 240sx and a couple other cars earlier so you know hes f*cked im from 818 anyway so im always in 626 anyway for the cheap chinese cafes and boba but i think i should be cool with my minor (for now) mods

Last I heard, these are strictly voluntary.

Can anyone shed some light on this, whether it is voluntary or not? I would be very interested.

I believe that you can find the info on the CHP or DMV site.

That explains it all. It is purely voluntary. You can feel free to decline. If you do decide to participate, there are absolutely no fines for SMOG or otherwise.

The test is vol. per CHP & DMV. The stops are to collect data on which cars pass or fail the test. You are not even informed if you pass or fail.....the data is just collected and you are sent on your way.

So, they do not even know if it fails there? Sounds like it wouldn't hurt, but I still do not like the idea....

Well, unfortunately I've seen this happen in Riverside also. As I was leaving my buddy's house I saw what looked like a random DUI check station. Then we saw the rollers out, so I took a turn in the nearest street prior entering the station.

If its voluntary, which Im not saying its not, the cops seem to forget to inform the public about this. The couple of times that I've seen this happen, they were operating just as they do when they select vehicles for DUI stops. They just flashed their flashlights at the car and pointed for them to pull over.

Maybe there's a different clause as to if they are conducting tests or using this for code enforcement?
