Not more than 4 motorcycles. They expressed an interest in joining us, so I invited them. But I may just have them go with me the weekend prior and that way I can familiarize myself with the route. Either case, I'll make sure they lead.

The Roush is a pretty nice car. I wanna see

I'll PM some more local Zs to see if they want to join us.

LOL, good point.

Looks like there will be a good number of us. Hey if we get all the SD Z owners we might be able to show up the OC/LA guys. Not like its a competition or anything.

Starting off Pomerado exit at the I15 -> Highland Valley Rd -> Old Julian Highway -> Santa Ysabel -> Cut North on 79 -> Mesa Grande -> Palomar Fast Side Returning to the I15.

Hoping to meet at 9 AM and will finish (I estimate) at 1-2 PM.

Any response is welcome.
Is this the run? I wasn't sure what "palomar fast side" is. Trying to get a mental picture of it before we go.

Haha I would but I gotta pick up my mom at 11am from the airport. Gonna get me some Dim Sum for lunch woohoo! For now I'll just mentally run over the route.

One more map... this is the route down from P. Mtn right? Is so... wow.... those are some dense switchbacks.

Now I'm getting a bit confused... which is the tight and which is the fast?

The route that I made out is exactly the one that nwind posted. E Grade looks somewhat tight, and I'd assume after point "6" on the map, it is pretty fast. (???) Edit: After point "6" is looks like spaghetti ! Looks like fun, but extra caution too.

I will know by the end of tomorrow which is fast and which is tight.

Ok I lied... one more... I promise (sorry for any modem users).

The route picture I'm trying to clear up is the P. Mtn area. This one is a bit more zoomed out.

Tight side is the South Grade Road, fast side is the East Grade road. At the top of both roads(where the "6" is) is an intersection and the store/restaurant. The bottom of the mountain is where the 76 meets S.Grade Road.

Ok, got it. We will be going on the fast side (E Grade) first then coming down on the tight side (S Grade) second.

I am going to try but I cannot promise anything.

I am currently remodeling/expanding my house and usually work all day saturdays.

Wow, Alang. That is very generous of you! Are you sure we won't be intruding?

Thumbs up Preliminary Drive Review

Just got back from driving the route and I must say that if weather/traffic/other forces of nature permit, this run is going to be great. Those of you who went to the Otay/Lyons Valley run will find this to be like Lyons Valley times three.

A couple of notes:

I left at 10AM and I must have passed only 15 or so motorcycles throughout the run (not very many). However traffic does build up as the morning progresses. I think the closer to 9 AM we leave, to more enjoyable it will be for us all.

Highland Valley -> fun.
Mesa Grande -> Beautiful.
Palomar Mtn -> Redefines hairpin.

Didn't see a single cop, but I might have been lucky with my timing.

Palomar is fun, but on the down hill "tight side", I would advise drivers to give yourself a 1-2 foot buffer from the yellow line. Motorcycles and cars do cross it on occasion.

I didn't get to reset the odo, but I estimate I travelled a little over 100 miles. The trip took 2.5 hours. I suggest you go with a full tank of gas.

I look forward to our drive. See you there!

No one has said if you want to meet up at my house or not, so I'll just post the directions and you can decide. If I can get a headcount, we can at least try to wait for everyone that is planning on showing up before leaving.

Are we still targeting leaving at 9:00 according to the original plans?

For those with navs, the address is 17666 Azucar Wy.

For the rest,
From I-15, take the Rancho Bernado Exit and head west.
The first intersection has two gas stations, and is West Bernado Drive. Turn right.
Go 3 traffic lights to Duenda Rd, turn left.
Over the top of the hill, the first left is Azucar Wy. I'm on the right under the street light.

MapQuest

See you there.
