Unhappy Got a ticket in Manhattan Beach today

What can I say, he got me good. I was going south on Aviation between Marine and Manhattan Beach blvd and motorcycle cop zapped me with laser. I'm an idiot because I heard my V1 go off but I usually ignore it when it's laser cuz it's usually a false warning, plus it's too late once it goes off. anyways he got me 59 in a 40. this is my first ticket and i'd like to do that online traffic school a coworker was telling me about a few weeks before. For anyone who's had experience with tickets, just how much should i expect to pay out of pocket for this whole ordeal (full price of the ticket + traffic school + extra fees)? I'm guessing $400-500, but it is a total guess.

something like $300 ~350 range, I'd say.
V1 is very accurate when it comes to laser.
I would not ignore it.
But then you learned it the hard way.
Just take the on-line traffic school. Very fast and easy.

I always slow down when mine beeps! - even though it will warn me about 5 miles in advance on the highway. Never know if he is behind or in front. If no more beeps, speed up with extra caution for 5 to 10 min. If you believe in your radar , heed it, if not, turn it off.

yeah i always listen to my Ka, but with laser it goes off at the most random times. usually when an SUV is in front or behind me.

also, with laser there is NO warning, it's instant on, instant kill..

MB po po and RB po po are upping their patrols..

RBPD now has that loud exhaust warning that they will pull over anyone with louder than normal exhaust systems (for Harleys, but i think cars are included too)

Lightbulb Fight it!

I fought a speeding ticket in South Pasadena and the cop never showed up! So no traffic school and you get your bail back.(MONTHS later BTW.) But you should request to fight the ticket via a letter. This helps in two ways. First off you can explain that your car is safe, modern and maintained with new tires and brakes and you were traveling UNDER the basic speed law and SAFE for the conditions. A letter to the court also requires the OFFICER to pick up a pen and write his own statement down...most would rather not. Look online for details of the process. The ticket may only be $200, but you'd rather have a clean record!

j!

yah going 59 in a 40 zone should only be around 200 bucks. You can ask for an extension to your ticket which would put the due date like 5 months from now. You can opt to fight the ticket and just hope the cop doesn't show and you'll get off free. Some judges are nice and after they call roll and if the cop did show up they'll still offer you the chance to plead guilty and take traffic school. And like the guy above said you can contest the ticket buy writing a letter to the court. Then the cop is required to write his side of the story. And I think even if you lose that you can still contest it again...

Yes, you can still contest it - but you then have to go to a real court - which will cost $$$. I once got a ticket for pulling from a drive in front of a police car. She made the mistake of writing up the ticket as a 2 door and it was a 4 door car and car was listed as wrong color. She also wrote the wrong speed limit for the street. I went to the police station and asked to see the ticket. She had written on the back of the ticket. -ticket given for "attitude". ( gee, was I supposed to be smiling and kissy for getting a ticket for basically nothing?? ) I did not cause an accident and she was far enough away when i pulled out that she had no problem.
I decided to go to court - and question the officer myself ( in court one may act as own attorney ) I made all my notes on a yellow legal pad.. before entering the court room she eyed me in the hallway. Later I went inside and sat waiting. The judge called me forward and said my case had been dismissed.
LOL, did she think I was a lawyer - with the yellow legal pad??
Furthermore - I dont believe attitude is basis for a traffic ticket.
Dont be afraid to go to court - be friendly and nice there - let the judge think what a nice person you are - and perhaps very believable.
