Default What to do with an exhaust fix-it ticket ?

Just moved from NorCal.

Some whackjob UCLA cop pulled me over for having a loud exhaust. He informed me that my exhaust was designed for the sole purpose of being loud. I kindly informed him that it was designed for horsepower gains by someone who worked on Ferraris and Lambos for decades, without mentioning the fact that my car is an APS TT with modified cams and no cats.

So now I have some bullsh*t fixit, but I have no stock exhaust to put back on for the thing to be inspected... nor do I have a shop down here yet that would take care of this for me.

In addition to not having a bloody apartment yet with school already starting, this is stressing me out...

Would one of my Z brethren point me in the right direction ?

Damn...all I can say is, you gotta fix it, unless you know someone who would sign it off for you.

ask shpos in ur area. Alot of teh times, people just drop off their stock exhaust in the shop and hope they can get rid of it for them. Thats how i got a spare one for me.

With the exception of not having cats, is your exhaust legal otherwise? Is it too loud?

Just pay the ticket. No need to get it fixed.

make sure there is actually a ordinance for modifying exhausts, and make sure there is a noise ordinance for a certain decibel level at all times of the day. most cities only have those after 10 pm.

you need to go to a state referee. i was pulled over for exhaust noise violation and had to go to a state referee to get tested. basically the limit in california is 95db (but the meter has a 1.5db tolerance...meaning the max reading is 96.5). they rev your car up from 3K-5K and take 3 tries at it. if none pass at 3 tries then...you are to pay the fine and replace the exhaust. the violation is only correctable if you pass or replace the exhaust to pass.

when you pass they give you a certificate of compliance to show the court. then all you have to do is pay the filing fees (like $15) and not the fine.

Like The Tech said above and cvt it isn't a fix it ticket, it's a normal infraction.
I highly suggest you do not go to the state referee. Yes if you are under 95db you will not have to pay the fine and you just pay the filing fee however, the referee will not let you get away with not having cats etc. They check absolutely everything.
What I have done is just pay the bail and be done with it, i'm on my 4th already. Pain in the *** that's about it.

my HKS 3' custom single out reads 94db with a silencer ha.
problem is whenever i get pulled over, i never have the silencer on.
yep 4 over the last year and a half. worst part is that its usually the ticket i get when i get pulled over for no reason and they can't find anything to ticket me on so they throw that at me.

Holy sh*t thanks for all the responses boys, I didn't even realize there was any since it didn't notify me by email.

So my ticket is payable, eh ? Didn't even realize that, guess I'm gonna call and find out how much.

Kinda funny but the violation states 27150.03 VC MODIFIED EXHAUST NOISE FOR WHISTLE TIP. lol, whistle tip, what a bunch of dipsh*ts.

Some of you have asked if it IS too loud. Well, when I first got it from Scott Performance in Norcal (custom-made) it was definitely too loud. I had a video somewhere with sound. I then had him put in an extra 6" of silencers on each pipe, and it quieted down. No muffler though, no cats.

But lately it got a little louder again. Mostly it's just very throaty when you are in gear, kinda sounds like a deep-throated exotic (was modeled after a Ferrari exhaust) but there are CERTAINLY cars louder around here. Pisses me off that this guy singles me out for some bullsht like this.

I'll post a video if I find the link.

THANKS FOR THE LOVE.

Yup, driving around UCLA/westwood you'd better drive slow... the cops have nothing better to do.

Pull over loud cars, break up loud parties, give tickets for jay-walking to foreigners who don't even speak english

I just had the visual inspection done at the DMV so that I could register my car. I was so worried but he didn't check squat. I'm legal but I thought he would have concerns about my popcharger or exhaust or something which people have posted about. But no! Yay.

Although I took my car to a nice car wash place near my house and I heard my car rev a few times before going into the process. Somebody was interested in my exhaust and that made me feel good.

So all fix-it tickets can be paid without having to actually to prove that you have fixed it? If that's the case that would be great. Has anyone gotten a fix it ticket for a turbo? I don't know what would happen if i get pulled over for that. It would take a lot of money to fix it. For those of you who has gotten a fix-it ticket, do you know if the cops besides writing down your license plate number, do they also write down your VIN number? If they don't write down your VIN, can't you just get a same color car to the cop station to prove that you have fixed your car?
