Default CLutch and Flywheel noises

Need some opinions and a fix if anyone knows it.

Earlier last year I had Performance Nissan install a JWT clutch and flywheel, and a UR under drive pulley on my 03 touring 6MT. All was well for a while. But shortly after, when I would depress the clutch peddle with the engine rpm over 4000, I would hear and feel a harmonic vibration. I took it back to Performance Nissan and they kept the car all day on a Saturday while I waited in the waiting room. At the end of the day, they came back and siad it was fixed. I got my car and split. Got about 80 feet down the street and realized, it wasn't fixed. So I go back and tell the manager. He says to come back next Saturday. So, not very happy about it, I drive home and come back the next Saturday for another day or waiting around at the local mall while they fiddle with my car. At the end of the day, still not fixed. I live about 60 miles away from Performance, so getting there and hanging around all day is not what I really want to do. Anyway, I go back for the third time after another week, while they are supposedly calling JWt for advice, blah blah blah. One more Saturday spent at the mall while they wrench away and I get a call saying the pulley was causing the noise, so I tell them to put the stocker back on. Then they said there was something wrong with the throwout bearing on the clutch, and JWT has never heard of the problem. So they put another throwout bearing in as well. The noise was gone and I was happy, though the did not give me back my UR pulley. So I call my bank and dispute the chrage for the pulley and about three weeks later, the pulley sows up at my house, UPS. Now, fast forward several months and guess what, the noise is back. Can't say I am all too excited to go back to Performance so they can monkey around with my car for another 25 hours of fruitless labor.

So, has anyone heard of this problem before? I asked if the flywheel was balanced and I never got a straight answer. The sound and vibration only comes through if I depress the clutch peddle with engine rpm over 4000. The higher the revs, the worse the sound. Also, the harder the acceleration, the worse the sound. My patience with Performance Nissan expired a long time ago, so if anyone here can suggest a better way of fixing it, or knows what the real problems, besides poor service, I would love to know.

Grassy.

Why not call JWT? Also, have you talked to Jason at Performance about it? He was supposed to be the one handling our Z's so that we got great service. So far, it doesn't sound like you received it.

I don't remember who I spoke to the first time. It was the guy with the super tricked out Z, the one with the irridium-like paint job. Seemed like a nice enough dude, but when I went back the third or fourth time, they told me he didn't work there anymore.

I am going to call Jason today and see what he can do about this. And then, if I hear the same thing, then I will call JWT. Maybe I'll just call both.

Will post what happens.

Ah...I believe you're talking about Tony. This must have been a while ago.

Yup, I think it was Tony.

Anyway, I spent about an hour on the phone with Jim Wolf, and he said he wanted to drive the car and see/hear/feel this for himself as he has never heard of it. Now I just have to get down to El Cajon during business hours.

Spoke to Jason, but he was only able to tell me to bring the car back in again. I guess that is all he really could say, but I'd sure llike to know what they are going to do. I think they should I either fix it, or return it to stock and give me my money back so I can go to a place that can install these parts properly.

Will post what happens when it happens....

When you change out UD pulleys (especially if it has the harmonic dampner on it) and change flywheels, you change the harmonic balance of the engine. V6's especially have to be harmonically balanced.

I had my stock pulley put back on, and it had no effect on the noise at all. I am still trying to figure out a time to take the car back to Performance for round 5.

TSCNismo, I would like to hear your car, and see if the problems are identicle. After speaking to Jim Wolf, if there was another car out there, especially with his flywheel, I bet he'd be pretty interested. Are you going to the Oxnard meet on the 21st?
