The Vegas Run

At MastaKillaZ's request, I am starting our Vegas run thread. So, let's begin with date and location. Personally, I'm thinking we need to do this in May after SEMA, taxes and other April events. Additionally, this will give us time to make reservations at reasonable prices.

Therefore, we need the following:

1. Please advise dates for May that would be suitable.

I'm thinking Friday evening departure, Saturday play in Vegas, Sunday morning checkout and play followed by Sunday afternoon departure. That's a two night stay and time to gamble, see some shows etc.

2. Please advise where you wish to stay.

Let's keep this reasonable guys so that we don't exclude anyone. I would say no more than $150.00 per night and I would prefer to go much lower if possible. Additionally, we need to work out a group rate as discussed below.

I don't know how many would care to share a two bedroom suite but that should be an option for those that wish to save some money.

3. Please advise if you are our Vegas coordinator.

I suspect someone on our trip goes to Vegas often and knows the in and outs of comps and group rates. If this is you, please let us know so that we can coordinate the best rates.

Obviously, you will not be fronting $$$. Rather we need you to coordinate the rate and we will have people call the Hotel directly to make their reservation. It is important that the rate not be fixed in the event a guest is unable to attend and must cancel.

4. Meet location.

We will set a meet location to leave from So. Cal. Anyone from No. Cal., Nevada or Arizona can meet us at the hotel and make their Meet location arrangements.

Okay guys, we need input, so post away on this thread. I hope that we are able to actually have something planned within two weeks. Do me a favor and try to respond to each of the four things we need above rather than just saying, "count me in." because we need your input.

Lastly, please consider this a disclaimer of any liability for any accident, injury or any and all other claims that may result from this trip. I'm just the thread originator and not your insurer.

4. Meet location.
1. Memorial Day weekend? That would be departure on Friday 5/23/03 and arriving back Sunday 5/25/03. That give everyone an extra day on a Holiday Monday to get caught up with personal weekend things. Problem is, since it is a 3 day weekend, the prices will be more expensive.

2. I do ALL of my rated gambling at Bellagio. Last week when I went, I had 9 hours of play at $160 average bet. I'd like to be able to use the comps so I'd prefer to stay at Bellagio. Of course, it's pretty expensive and if people would like somewhere cheaper, then I'd like to go to any of the MGM-Mirage hotels that are on the same rating system as Bellagio. That includes the Golden Nugget, MGM Grand, Mirage, and Treasure Island. Treasure Island is relatively cheap, for a decent hotel. I vote NOT to stay at a REALLY cheap place like Stratosphere or Circus Circus. A line of Z's should be valet'd at a decent hotel.

3. I am NOT the Vegas coordinator. I vote MastaKillaZ to be the coordinator!

4. We can meet anywhere along the 15 FWY area. I think a good meeting place would be the Ontario Mills shopping mall. HUGE parking areas, and it's right off either the 15 FWY or 10FWY.

5. Additional suggestion. I think you should try to POLL people for responses and see how many people would actually like to attend this event.

The weekends are May 3, 10, 17, 24. I prefer the 10th b/c a friend of mine will be in Vegas that weekend as well. However, I am (very) flexible.

2. Please advise where you wish to stay.
While I'm working now, I was a student not too long ago. I don't care where we stay. I am more concerned about PARKING - we are not valeting, right? Somewhere in the main strip would be more fun b/c we can drink and then walk (I've stayed at Excalibur, Bally's, Bellagio, Venetian, Flamingo, Monte Carlo, Caesars, and others are NY NY, Mandalay). I don't care about poshness, and anything lower than $120 would be great. Circus Circus is too far down. For that reason, I would rather not stay in Hard Rock or Rio, but if we can get good rates (UNHO?), I don't mind. I also do not want to stay at the Luxor. It is a dead dead hotel and no fun at all. Plus I've lost at BJ there.

3. I am not a high roller. But I once dated a guy that was and we still talk. I would rather not call him up, but if nobody else is stepping up to get us good rates and we can't find anything on our own, I can try.

4. Meet location.
Where do the OC/SD people come up from? How far east is it? It doesn't make sense for them to drive west just to meet us in LA. I would say just meet in Rancho Cucamonga - where the 10/15 meet? It's guaranteed on the way, no backtracking, and there are big malls with big parking lots. Problems: it is hard to time a Friday departure. Esp'lly if we are on the west side, the traffic going out east on the 60 or 10 is ALWAYS horrendous.

Ok, so I had some free time and did a bit of research on the hotels I would like to go to.

All these rates are for SINGLE ROOM RESERVATIONS from 5/9/03 - 5/11/03. Keep that in mind, since they offer GROUP discounts starting from reservations of 20 rooms. That means we'll probably end up paying 10 - 30% (I'm guessing) less than what I quote.

Treasure Island = $115/night. Good location. 2 hotels down from Bellagio, and right across the street from Venetian.

Bellagio = $239/night. The best there is in terms of service and location.

MGM Grand = $109/night. Great location. Right on the corner facing Xcaliber, NYNY, and Tropicana.

Mirage = $129/night. Good location. Close to Treasure Island.

PS... Can the group coordinator also find out if we can get group discounts to OG? HAHA!!!

When I went a week ago, they did away with the 2 free drink tickets with $20 entrance fee. So now, you pay $20 JUST TO GET IN!!!

I think Iris mentioned Excalibur. I just happen to have their flier with me which includes prices. I also called and ask for a group discount rate but it seems we would get a better deal if we call individually and mention the offer.

Anyway, here are the prices in case anyone is interested:

May 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 30th = $109.95; 23rd = $99.95
May 3rd = $139.95; 10th, 17th, 31st = $119.95;
May 24th = $149.95

I think we may want to skip Memorial Day. It will be a zoo. It will be more expensive. People may have other plans. Treasure Island seems reasonably priced and nicely located. As for valet, I think most of us will want to avoid Ferris Bueller's valet.

May 10 is Mother's day. People might want to be doing something else for their mom. No reason to exclude but let's consider that. We want to avoid Valet. I think Bullish's idea about Ontario Mills shopping mall is a good idea and well worth thinking about as it's near the 10/15.

As for your friend, let's not do anything you prefer not doing.

Guys, thanks for checking rates. I'm really digging the who Treasure Island theme, how about you?

1. Please advise dates for May that would be suitable.

I already booked a room at the Rio from may 16-18 because it is free and they are giving my wife a free shopping trip to the vegas mall.

2. Please advise where you wish to stay.

I will be staying at the Rio - see above.

3. Please advise if you are our Vegas coordinator.

I nominate Snoopy - my host left paris so the only place i get comps are at the Rio

4. Meet location

Ontario mall is a good place to meet.

Well, I am close with 2 hosts, 1 pit manager, and 5 dealers. The hosts use to give me free rooms even at $70 average bets. Oh, and I play BJ and Pai Gow Poker.

And hey!!! Enough about those breadsticks! Everyone ended up paying the same amount, and the boy did get his breadsticks!!!!

Haha...

Another note.

If the price of Excalibur is the same as Treasure Island, I DEFINATELY VOTE FOR Treasure Island. Excalibur is pretty cheesy and Treasure Island is nicer in all aspects.

Plus, as HFM mentioned, they do have specials, including coupon books.

1. Dates in May

First two weekends are bad... otherwise, no problem... I think... work really cramps my ability to plan anything in advance.

2. Where to Stay

Does OG have any rooms? Besides the backroom bullish...

I vote we all crash in Bullish's room at the Bell... All in favor... Bullish, you don't get a vote.

otherwise, treasure sounds fine... or we can crash in unho's room at the rio, but all that mushy husband/wife stuff may drive me nuts. (I'm just kidding unho... sorta ... lol.)

3. Vegas Coordinator

um... hfm, bullishz, unho... really anyone besides me gets my vote.

4. Meet location

Ontario mills is cool wit da masta...

and who the hell is betting $160 a hand??? and why $160? why not $200? j/k

either way, I'll gamble till Bullish runs out of money, but for me, I'm looking all night for the $5 and $10 tables... and it's CRAPS for me, baby... yo, eleven!!! come on shooter...

aside from that vegas is all about chasing tail... so anyone up for circus circus... I'M JUST KIDDING...

who's the big winner... mikey's the big winner...

Ok, this is my understanding so far:

1) Date:

May 17th seems to be the winner so far. Masta doesn't like the 3rd or 10th, and I agree w/hfm that the Memorial Day weekend would be bad. People (me) might have to see family, plus the Friday afternoon drive out there would be infinitely annoying and gridlocked.

However, May 17th is not one of the weekends mentioned in hfm's post re the Treasure Island specials. Maybe we can get this fixed with a group rate.

2) Treasure Island sounds fine with me.

3) The only connections my guy has are the Rio and Bally's (I think), so I won't be calling him.

4) Ontario Mills (where the 10 and 15 meet) will be our rendezvous point.

Thoughts?

HEY! That's an AVERAGE bet... most were under $100 bets, until I was winning and started betting $300+ a hand. It was all winning money anyway!

Are you saying you dont chase or place mad bets of 500+?

btw memorial day weekend will be hell!!! esp. driving to and from vegas. those three day weekends have taken me an extra 2-3hrs of driving time one way. i am pretty sure i dont want to sit in bumper to bumper traffic from oc to vegas driving a stick.
