Default Looking to do a color change, recommend paint shops in 909/951/626?

Im tired of silver. I want to do a color change, either to black or red, but most likely black. Anybody recommend affordable yet good paint shops in this area? I'm not looking to pay like 5 grand or anything close to that amount. I want a complete color change including jambs, under hood, but not engine bay. I don't plan on taking off any interior panels to paint anything. Thanks in advance. No crazy custom stuff, just a clean, near factory look.

they did a good job, but the paint match was just eh. Going for a whole new color though, that'd be a no-brainer

I would say your best bet is calling up because a "good" paint job can vary car to car as opposed to a Macco like place that has a flat rate.

To do a good job, one worthy of your Z . . . . . . aint gonna be cheap.

I am gonna guess $6000 will be your lowest offer to do it right. Anything less they will be doing an second rate job. I only worked at a couple different shops and it was a long time ago. But a full repaint requires a TON of work.

It'd be a shame if your Z got totaled and the insurance company had no choice but to buy you a new one.... in the color you want.

Hey somebody posted it for me.

My advice for a color change is sell yours and buy a different color. Color changes are super expensive to be done right. No sense paying 8-10K for paint.

Dont go to M1...my friend got his CL painted, brother got his Z painted, and i got my G re-painted...dont know why we keep going there, they didnt even put my fender back on correctly, didn't paint match, left touch-up paint marks EVERYWHERE...on the other hand, MOB in orange is a MUCH better shop, highly recommend.

Like most body shops, I think you are going to hear the good and the bad. I'm sure M1 would do what they can to make things right if you brought it to their attention professionally. For the most part, I have seen pretty clean stuff come out from them.

Next time, just take it to DTM Autobody and have Mia handle the situation. She is smooth as butta! Uh huh haha

Maaco said they can paint the whole car (not the Z, AE86) for $1000. I'm kind of tempted.

Are you sure you want to change the color rather than buying a new car in the correct color. It usually doesn't make sense to paint a car a stock color for the following reasons:

1) The paint is never going to be as clean as the original paint no matter where you go.
2) It is going to be a pain in the *** if you want to get the full on paint job that the car comes with from the factory -- think about door jambs, engine bay, trunk (both the underside of the lid and the boot), behind the lights, etc. And getting all of that done involves a lot of labor, like taking out the engine, taking **** apart. That labor is expensive and do you really want the body shop fooling around with this ****?
3) It's just going to look like a regular Z in a different color. And, for whatever reason, you liked the color of the one you bought. What's to keep you from changing your mind in a week? How do you know that you'll like black or red better?

Its just usually too much of a headache unless you're going to get a crazy custom color like, say, ballet-slipper pink with olive green stripes outlined in white and olive green powder coated Volks with a white lip-- which would totally rock.

Also Maaco is garbage. I got my Celica Macco'd when I was a kid. The paint was peeling within a week. I went back and yelled and they repainted the parts that were peeling. A week later it started peeling again.
