Ah, ok, that's why I didn't see it; it's well North of town. Hmm, looks like out 76 to 79, through Julian and out Sunrise Highway to I-8? Looks like a good route to me. I vote a stop for lunch and fresh apple pie in Julian!

LOL, such hardship. You can do it; looks like it's shaping up to be a nice cruise. I've been on at least part of the route before in the NSX; some really beautiful scenery up thee and nice curves!

We can stop in Julian for sure. I estimate we should get into Julian by around 1030. Unfortunately, most of the lunch places don't open until noon, which is why I suggested lunch at the end of the run. However, the pie shop in Julian should be open in the morning if anyone wants to pick up a nice applie pie

If you take the aforementioned sunrise hwy, how long would the drive be after Julian, and what type of roads are they?

^ nah, it's a nice, scenic road and good for the wind-down portion of the run. I prefer high speed sweepers to tight corners, anyway, plus, I don't know about everybody else, but I'm not looking to do anything stupid; I'm all for some spiriting running, but let's keep it sane and safe.

the 79 is just as good for that kind of driving altho lots of cars on it. i heard a lot of hype around sunrise but it seems more like a harley cruising road. road does seem like it goes on forever. speeds can be very fast yet safe on sunrise tho.

Yeah, I'd like to try out the 79 sometime, too; doesn't look like it's on tap for this cruise, though. Sounds like a good excuse to plan another cruise in the near future!

One good thing is the several times I've been on Sunrise before, there's never been much traffic. Now if we wanted some tight curve fun, the Banner grade down from the backside of julian to the desert floor is pretty fun to run down and back up.

OK, this thread aside - what is the best "drive" to do in the SD area? I wouldn't mind taking one in the future when I have some free time...

I like Ocampo road (94) through Julian all the way to Interstate 8 and then return to San Diego on Interstate 8

CA-94 "parallels" the border - Julian is up north - so what roads do you cut up in between?
