Default exhaust in cali

i have a question guys, i just got here in san diego and my question is, is it ok to replace my stock exhaust with an aftermarket exhaust? i had an RSR exhaust but, i had to remove it before i left san antonio, tx. it's just too quiet with a stock exhaust. i've seen a lot of 350z in the area but, none have a aftermarket exhaust; is it that strict here in cali? right now i only have megan racing y-pipe and stock exhaust. any sugestion?

As long as you don't remove your cats you should still be legal.

No problems with aftermarket exhausts here unless you add test pipes or whatever.

Not entirely true.

I believe the exhaust cannot exceed 95 dB. If the exhuast sounds loud, the police can, and will, pull you over and possibly cite you for aftermarket exhaust or similar and might send you to the referee just for the loud exhaust.

Just be cautious when driving around - not trying to get attention at each stop light, etc...

True but without putting on test pipes I'm not aware of any exhaust that exceeds the db max out of the box.

I think if you go WOT in front of any cop with an aftermarket exhaust he will probably pull you over for sound. But not if you're just cruising.

Just keep that in mind, and don't go too berserk.

If you still have the RSR, just reinstall it and be careful where you rev that thing. If you do end up getting pulled over and getting ticketed, just put the stock one back on.

Someone mentioned a hefty fine (2-3K) for being caught by a cop and them seeing the test pipes? Any news on that one?

My aftermarket exhaust is feathery, sounds clean but i want it louder and test pipes sound like the best option. Just can't afford a hefty ticket like that!

I got pulled over once for speeding and the cop commented that my exhaust (Nismo) was loud. And I told him that it was made by Nissan (I didn't say Nissan Motorsports)

Just don't go WOT around cops, I've heard people getting pulled over for just the stock exhaust.
