Santa Barbara members?
Hey guys, my name is Phil. This is kind of a weird post, but may be useful.....worth a shot.
In a nutshell, my brother and I want to move to Santa Barbara. He has applied for a few jobs (helps that he has a degree), and I have no idea where to work. Is there much work available for a 21 year old male with no degree but very good work ethics? Very broad subject, I know, I just want to find out if it is worth my time. Thanks
Phil

The mall La Cumbre Plaza is always hiring for security. It is the Macerich Corp. They start at I believe 12 an hour.
I worked for the company at a different mall in the area, Ventura's Pacific View.
Its a good company and fun place to work actually

Cool, thanks. is that by the Le Cumbre Country Club? I have only been to SB twice. My sister lives there with her husband and he is an assistant pro at the golf course there
Im not to sure. To be honest Ive only been there a few times subbing for overnight security. It is really slow up in SB.
heres the website http://www.shoplacumbre.com/
or for a dollar less (yes I said less) pay apply at Pacific view in ventura (30) minutes away and you can have the gang fights, stabbings, vandalisms, burglaries, etc. and have more fun. lol

Hey Phil,
I too moved up here without a job over a yr ago and tho I have a degree, I got one pretty quickly. Rent is expensive. Parking is free or cheap. Hard to find a place to live if you have pets.
As far as jobs go, search craigslist. I found the local newspapers (SB News Press, Independant, whatever the UCSB campus paper is) to not be helpful for me, but if you go on their websites they all list classifieds I believe. There are 3-4 temp agencies in the area too.
Also, It might just help to drive around and get a feel for the areas after you move here. There is downtown: lower state street, with lots of restaurants and shopping
then uptown/old town goleta which is crappier with cheaper shopping and stripmalls...
then there is goleta which has some large, quiet corp offices and some shopping plazas. There is also intermittent farming, esp. up the 101 past goleta
La Cumbre CC is pretty central in SB. The whole area is pretty small - its like a big tall rectangle that is maybe 2 miles wide from ocean to mtns and 12 miles tall up the 101 highway. even though its a city, its VERY towny.
What kind/how much experience do you have and what are you interested in doing?
I work for a bank w/ a nice environment and can give you more info if you want to be a teller or work in customer contact/answering phones.
Oh and hey KPanda and Roger - I will meet up w u -biweekly or whatever.
I want to find more Z people in town

Thanks for all the input guys. Experience is a big problem for me. I am 21 and have been detailing cars for about 2 1/2 years. To be frank, I am amazing at it, but I absolutely hate the job. Decent pay, but I am sick of dealing with over the top picky people and even more sick of cleaning up after kids vomit/spills/coloring accidents...
I am not sure what I really want to do, but I am a very fast learner and well rounded. If anyone can keep input coming in, it will be appreciated! I will search craigslist and also have my sister keep her eye out in SB! Thanks again
