Default CHP-Notice to appear

I got a fix-it ticket for no front plate on my Z about 2 weeks ago in Malibu.
All I want to do is pay whatever fine I need to pay and be done with this, but it looks like they're making me appear on 9/7 in Malibu to show I've fixed this...?
There's no fine amount on the ticket, and there's that appearance date, so I'm a little lost - usually you can just pay or appear. Looks like I don't have that option on this one, is that possible?
At LAX I've received ticets for no front plate - you just pay the $45 and it's history - this ticket is different.
Anyone know if I can just pay a fine and forget this appearance thing? Where do I go to find out (without having to drive to Malibu...!). Doh!

why don't you just call the courthouse and check with a clerk on this. I got a ticket up in Ventura County and they asked me to appear and there was no way I was going up to Camarrillo so I called and did everything over the phone.

Good idea. I'll do that and see what happens. Driving to Malibu to deal with this is simply not worth the time I'll lose.

Actually, there has to be a way of doing this over the phone/otherwise...my buddy was with me in his own BMW and got the same ticket. He lives in SF though...

For those who care/want to know (future ref), I called and he said you absolutely have to put the front plate on the car and bring it in for sign-off. There is no fine aside from some $15 fee. I have the bracket, I have the plate, but this will leave me with two frigging holes in my bumper.
WTF.

you have to take it to that specific station, or you can get it signed off at any authorized police headquarters/station?
it seems strange they want you to go to that specific place.. read the back of your ticket under 'correctible violations' carefully.
Correctable Violations

If you were issued a citation for one of the following violations, you must provide valid proof of correction with your citation or notice.
  • 5200 CVC - 5202 CVC, missing or improperly displayed license plates
  • 5204 CVC, missing, expired or improperly displayed registration tabs
  • 4000A CVC, unregistered or expired registration
Vehicle inspection for valid proof of correction may be obtained at one of the following authorized agencies:
  • A local Police Department
  • Department of Motor Vehicles
  • California Highway Patrol
  • Marshal's Inspection Office

you could spend $30 on the z bracket, or spend $2 on some zip ties. see my posts in this thread:

every where is different. you need to show the judge or chp that u put ur plate back on and maybe pay a fine for court fee or some time consuming fee. LAX cop didnt care if u had it back on or not imo

while different cities have different fix-it ticket processing fees, the basic california vehicle code doesn't change. CHP isn't city-specific, is it? any ticket i've ever gotten from a CHP officer [the top of the ticket will say CHP] has looked exactly the same, and the instructions on the back have been the same.

when i first got my ticket, i didn't think i had a choice either. online it didn't give an optional fee. but when i called, they gave me a price to pay (instead of showing proof). however, i fixed it anyways since the fee was too high.

but yea, i did the samething that dirty did. bought some zipties then put my Performance Nissan cover over the plates (so the zipties weren't obvious) and i was good.
