I would try Craig's List or Recycler, etc... I know I'm looking at getting a ZR in about 6-7 months and I'm keeping my '92 Camaro for beater purposes. I'm sure you can find a beater under 1k somewhere. If you only look at local sales lots instead of chain lots you should have luck. Have you asked the chain lots if they have something? They take in cars that they'll never resale and send out to salvage. Hit them up for a bid on a beater. Saves you money, saves them money.

I know of a 98(I think?) Mazda 626 for sale in Vegas. Newish tranny. 127K miles. No problems we are aware of. Let me know if you're interested.

 

Also, if I were you, I'd go to impound auctions. Most impound lots have a sign inside with dates and cars...

i have a 84vw rabbit conv...its primered,5spd needs a top tho...runs really good everything is new like,water pump,fuel pump,alternator,distributor,tires,timing belt the car is actually fast lol smokes acuras and civics all day long its just chilling here i dont even use it..i can get you some pics if you want..needs battery and top thats about it...oh and registration has been expired for awhile..ill post some pics later for fun lol

 

Sorry, just sold my DD for $350. Runs like a champ with a new engine in it. Just has body damage from getting hit by a Benz S500 - Door replacement is cheap from a junk yard.

 

what are some reliable cars that can be found for cheap? i'm trying to find a beater too and just wanna know what kind of car to look for.. any where are the local impound lots?

 

i gota 91 honda accord for 100 bucks i put like 20000 miles on it so far no problems,So there are good DD out there you just have to find them.

I gotta 95 Eclipse GST(urbo) Black with Silver tim, original owner, 300,000+miles, in fair condition, runs great but wont start, believe it needs a battery, maybe a starter. Recently had the alternator changed but the battery wont hold a charge so it sits in a coma next to the Z. Kelly Blue Book is between $3500-$4000, as is. Needs shocks also, tires are like new, brakes are good, engine bay is dirty with some New England winter weathering but still pretty quick if it had a new battery and shocks. I will let her go for 2k. Comes with Kenwood amps and a kick *** Boston Acoustic Band Pass Sub woofer. The sub is worth $400 alone. The stereo has a 6 disc changer but the volume **** is wacky, sounds great once you get the volume adjusted.

 

oh crap, that is a LOT of miles! I'll be happy if my Z is still kicking when it gets to 300,00 miles
