Default SoCal Driving Test: If you are in the left lane, what should you do?

I ask this question as it's painfully obvious the driving test must be different in the LA area than San Diego, or the rest of the country.

So please vote.

Just an example, on my drive between LA and Las Vegas on Friday night, I counted 114 cars (yes, I counted) in the left lane as I passed them in the right lane - all in my whimpy 2.0L Mazda 3 rental car (not mine, although we own one, I also have one as a rental). 4 of them were 350Zs, and 3 of them were G35Cs. Are you one of them? If so, you should be ashamed.

I would like to start another poll, if you are in the left lane and a driver behind you flashes its lights or uses the left turn signal, what should you do? SoCal drivers fail on this one too.

J, who can't believe LA drivers are worse than NY drivers on their Saturday drive to their cousin's batmitzvah...

People in LA just doesnt know how to drive. Just like the entrance to 10 East freeway on Overland, although there is a signal light pole there, but when it isnt light on, we can just go without stopping, right!? But I those damn stupid people just stop there, every car reaches the signal light pole stops! its ridiculous.
And today, Im on 10 West, there is like 5 lanes, but the one of the most left lane is driving 60mph, then she even slow down to 50mph. omg..
No wonder there is always traffic in LA!! People just doesnt know how to drive!! I really hope the police can at least pull some of those idiot over, and ask them to have a driving class & exam again..
And I also hope that they can construct some roads that only certain people who passed a higher skill driving test can drive onto it.. it saves people's time..
I just hate those who drive slow, react slow, and causing traffic.....

Apparently people in LA can't form sentences very well either.

This is a great poll - I'm so sick of idiots hogging the left lane, especially stupid construction trucks! My real answer to this question is "Use left lane to pass slower drivers in right lane, then move over to right lane after passing and pass the person who's going too slow in the left lane" haha :-D

It's not just LA, florida is just as bad, and Georgia too. Coming back from NOPI in Atlanta to Central Florida area, I was constantly passing people, dozens at a time, who were all driving slow in the left and middle lanes. Entire stretches of cars all packed together going 70-75 mph in the left and middle lane, while the right lane was empty. It was great to pass them "en masse".

But I really wish people would learn. i have even had riders question my driving when I pass then move right, then pull out and pass again a little down the road. Like I am doing something wrong!

San Diego was the best drivin' I've ever had in a city. People did NOT go into the left lane unless they were going fast,

I apologize about that if you had trouble understanding my sentence. English isnt my mother language. If you understand chinese, I can write it out. Definitely no grammar mistake

Just cuz people in L.A. have great cars like the Z or G, doesn't mean they know how to drive them, most are ****** who love their weekend warrior car and drive 5 mph in the left lane on the 405 anticipating traffic and slow down even more when the freeway turns. I love when i drive home to SD and everyone is going at least 80mph in all of the lanes. I heard Germany is the greatest public driving experience, if anyone has driven there I would love to hear about it.

I have to agree with you - out off all the cities I've driven throughout the U.S. (pretty much everywhere except for Seattle - that's a good amount of them), San Diegians (or whatever they're called) treat the left lane with more respect than anywhere else.

I suppose my parents instilled good driving skills with me when I was learning how to drive since we lived in Germany. Left lane is used exclusively for passing, no excuses. Loitering in the left lane is revered as a severe penalty - as it should be in the U.S. It doesn't matter if you're going 50mph faster than the speed of traffic - if you are in the left lane, you merge to the right where possible as the left lane is only for passing.

After moving to California, I was pretty impressed by their driving exam as they emphasized efficiency of traffic flow - it's obvious that people from Los Angeles area miss this question. You all may know the answer to the above question, but you fail at execution.

Germany is wonderful, but it's not the best. I've driven throughout Europe, and while Germany is one of the best, it's not THE best. Given there are short stretches of the Autobahn that have no speed limit, most stretches have too much traffic and speed limits with speed cameras to enforce it. That being said, I was doing 220kph in my rental Z4 passing people in the left lane when I saw a flash way back in my rearview - seconds later, I was blown by at a Ferrari F360 and an AMG S600 (or whatever it was) doing 280+kph.

Best roads I've been on have been the new highways in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary - where there aren't as many cars and the roads are brand new. Given the speed limit is 130kph, it isn't enforced.

Its even more ridiculous when you are driving in Monterey Park or Irvine during 10am-12am, when the streets are mostly those asian ladies who doesnt know how to drive..
I usually cut to the right lane and let people pass me if im doing 80mph, and the guy is still going faster than me..
I remember when I was driving to Vegas, after I let an IS350 passed me, he gave me a emergency light flashed once as being courtesy...
If everyone knows how to share the road, it will be so much better..

Lane quality plays a factor when i drive in the left lane, sometimes the right lanes is jacked up from trucks so its too bumpy to drive in the right lane

Then you sir are a guilty party. This is what everybody else says to themselves - "I'm moving fast enough, so this lane is better." I think not... Left lane should always be clear of traffic - again, pass and merge back to the right.

This is not a tough one. Check your ego at the door unless you are at the track. Then let your right foot do the talking.
