Question Injen CAI filter illegal?

Hi, I recently moved to LA from Boston.
While I was getting the smog test done for registration, the guys at the smog station told me that the open air filter on my injen cai was illegal in CA. Is this guy pulling my leg? or is it really illegal here? O_o?

go to a different place that doesn't care what you have and they will pass you. Lots of places now are *******s and will not pass you if you can't pass the "visual" portion of the inspection which pretty much means any mods without the appropriate carb legal sticker.

You'll still pass the smog portion just not visual unless you go to a place that doesn't care about the visual portion

Call or email injen with a pic of you intake installed and they will send you a CARB sticker. I had the same problem and then put on the sticker and took it back to the same smog tester just to shove it in his face that it was legal. (I argued with him that it would pass and he wouldn't run it.)

^ not sure, I called up Injen and asked the guy about it. They have two models for the z. One is the first release series where you take the old MAF tube and attatch to the piping. the new series has a welded MAF adapter built in and is one long piece of tubing. I believe the second series (newer one) is the one pending CARB approval.

Oh man I didn't think my car also needed carbs to be healthy >.> ok sorry bad joke...

The guy that I went to told me about the filter after he ran the smog test which I passed. So he just let it go after telling me about it and that I should get it fixed. He also said something about a 'sticker' version is illegal and that the carb cert had to be welded in. ~_~ oh well won't have to worry about it till my next smog test ^_~

You means lots of places now are following the law and preventing hefty fines to their own buisnesses. Dont hate the buisnesses they are just trying to run legitimate buisnesses. The fines that smog shops and automotive repair shops can get for not following laws and rules are often very high.

thats strange the sticker they sent me is like a piece of metal thats engraved. when i put it on the intake it looked welded in or looked like part of the intake. Well im not sure anymore since its been awhile since i talked to anybody from injen. Anyway the sticker has OEO #'s heres what they say:

Injen Technology submits all of our air intake systems for CARB exemption approval (California Air Resource Board). All of our air intake systems are either certified by CARB or have been submitted for CARB exemption. Considering California has some of the toughest emission laws in the country, CARB approval has been accepted as legal by other states. Each of these kits includes a high temperature decal with the CARB exempt OEO number. This decal identifies approved aftermarket add on products from non-approved products. As long as you have the approved decal you shouldn't have any problems with vehicle inspections. You can visit our Website www.injen.com and click on CARB EO listings to determine the CARB status.

yes, $10,000 I heard from some of them. Either way the whole "visual" inspection I think is ********. If the car passes the actual smog check itself and comes out clean and all that, who gives a **** about how it looks as long as it passes the smog test itself! It's a stupid law imo.

All that really should matter is if it passes the emissions portion because if an intake doesn't have a ****in sticker on it isn't going to effect the cleanliness of the air and THAT is the whole point of making us smog the cars, to keep the air clean

technically, any part that does not have a CARB EO # is illegal
