Angry My neighborhood is on fire!

I live in northwest Rancho Bernardo.

I was awoken at 4am by a neighbor calling me saying that the neighborhood was being evacuated because of the fires (she works for the school district and got the info from their automated system).

I look outside and I can barely see across the street because of the smoke. We gathered up our valuables, computers, animals and photos. The whole time we were watching and listening for evacuation notices. We heard sirens, but no information was forthcoming. Our cable was out (no TV, internet or phone). We decided to leave.

As we are driving over to the east side of the hill we live on, I can see the red glow of a house on fire in the next block over, and a palm tree on the road I am travelling on is on fire! I had to drive through a blaze of flying embers to get past. I'm glad we didn't wait.

We got away from the immediate flames quickly, but within a block traffic stopped. It took almost 90 minutes to get to the freeway. Once on the freeway, we calmed down a bit and drove to my father's house.

I have been monitoring my police/fire scanner and have heard the addresses of groups of houses on fire at four locations within a block of my house. The fire crews are only responding to fires on occupied buildings, so these fires I have heard of near my house are simply left to burn.

I don't know when I will be able to get back to my house, but I at least know my family is safe.

These no real point to this, just needed to talk about it. I'll update as much as is theraputic.

No photos of the event, I was too occupied at the time.

Sorry to hear.

I hope your home is safe, and if not, I hope you've kept up with your fire insurance.

Don't worry everyone feels like they need to let something out sometimes. And this is a great way to do it for support. So keep your head up and dont think bad!

Here's hoping that you're home is safe.

Tell me you don't have a shake wood roof?

When we bought our home we were up against an old abandoned orange grove and beyond that nothing but bush. Since then the grove has been cut down and the homes now extend another 2 miles to the east and we feel safer.

250,000 people evacuated from San Diego county alone.

If your house is the stucco and clay tile roof you're odds are much better.

The news is reporting the San Diego fires are out of control.

hope your house will be safe, saw some houses burning on TV and can't imagine the pain the owners are going through.

I've heard about these fires. Someone I was talking to earlier left work to go grab stuff from his house b/c his neighborhood was about to be evacuated as well. I hope everything turns out ok!

It gets better. I am now getting reports on the scanner of looters! Scum of the earth. I will be so pissed if my house survives only to find out that some douch bag broke in a took a bunch of my stuff!!!

It amazes me that people could be in there while the fires are still raging just to steal stuff.

Crap.

****. Those are the people that need to be shot on sight (marshal law).

I'm in Foothill Ranch right now and it's getting worse the longer I sit here. I keep waiting for the word from the authorities to evac.

I wouldn't wait if its within a few miles. It took me almost 2 hours to get out of my neighborhood, plus I never got a notification to evacuate. We had 70mph winds in the early morning hours, and those winds can really make the fire move fast. Don't risk it.

You guys and girls be safe.

Put the wife and kids in the car, and get the hell out of town. The winds are from the east. I would go East right.

It pretty much doesn't matter what your house is made of. These fires are dry, fierce, lots of fuel around, and the winds are supplying lots of oxygen. If the fire gets too close to your house, it's all over.

I truly hope for the best all of my socal friends who may be affected by this turn of events

I was enjoying the strong winds, I didn't think it would last this long.

Chicago's winds don't even last this long even though they're technically not the windiest city.

It's unfortunate and tragic what's going to happen to these families homes. Still blowing away loud and clear as I type.

Ouch, I guess, it's puts you in a deep state of mind and perspective.

I didn't lose my home but my car was stolen. I lost all my sentimental belongings in my car. I was in the process of moving so I had everything inside of it.

I actually laughed when it happened because I had my laptop which had all my thoughts/writings etc.

wow, hope everything turns out ok. we are over in spring valley and i can see the smoke on 2 sides of me. we left work early, bc the shop is outside and we had people leaving to get stuff out of their houses. my wife and i already went over the stuff to get if we need to get out of the neighborhood quick. i just moved out to SD 2 monthes ago and get to deal with wildfires!!! hopefully everyone on my350Z will be ok. if this starts to get any worse, and members of the board loose homes or get evacuated, we should put a sticky up. i will help anyone that needs it and hope anyone would help us if we needed it. everyone needs to watch the news/ listen to the radio and leave if they tell you to....good luck to everyone
