Default Moving to Newport Beach area - where to live?

Hey guys,

I'm currently located in Northern Cal (San Francisco/Oakland) and am moving down to SoCal in three weeks for a job which is located in Newport Beach. I was hoping for some suggestions from you guys on where to live. I'm looking to move somewhere close enough to Newport Beach where I don't have to deal with LA traffic and where I can just hop in the Z and be at work in no more than 15-20 minutes. I'm looking for a "personality fit" also for the city I will be moving to. About me: 26, single , love going out to bars/clubs, not a huge fan of the beach and the water (but that may change).

My friend said not to live in Newport Beach because it's for a slightly older crowd. He said Huntington Beach would be great because it's "hip/trendy", is for the younger crowd like myself, and is very close to Newport Beach so my commute would be minimal and enjoyable. What do you guys think? If I do live in Huntington Beach, is there a main street (with "hella" ) bars/restaurants/hot spots that I should try to live close to?

Thanks guys! Look forward to meeting a bunch of you guys at future Z meets!

I go to Newport all the time cuz I live 15 minutes down the freeway. Newport is amazing man. I was about to live there myself but it didnt work out. Ill be finding a new place there shortly. Lots of my friends live in Newport, it is alot of fun. Lots of bars and clubs to go to and they are mostly all within walking distance. The houses/condos are very nice and the beach is right there. The 4th of July goes OFF there !!!!!

But to answer your question... I think personally that Balboa Peninsula is the best location. Right by the beach, boardwalk and all the bars. Its not cheap but if you do your homework you can find a nice place.

In no way is Newport for an older crowd. There are some wealthy people but that place is a blast every night. People are always walking around and riding bikes. We sit out on my buddies porch ( on the boardwalk ) and just drink beers and watch people walking by. I think that Newport is better than Huntington, but thats just my opinion.

It depends on your budget. Newport is definately more expensive than Huntington, and the scene is, as your buddy said, a bit more adult. Huntington is cool if youre about 17....too many kids and idiots....someone always lookin for a fight. There are also some nearby inland cities which are great places to live (like Tustin and Irvine) that are just short drive from Newport. Be sure to consider them also since you might be able to save a few bucks but still live in a nice area close to work.

If you are not looking for a scene.. which can be driven to anywhere, and want something affordable, check out Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Tustin, and of course Irvine.
