Yes... rough guestimate 20 lbs per hinge so add 40 lbs to the weight of the car. its not a functional mod its more for show than anything else.

if possible, could you take more picts of the hinge, say from sitting in the car looking at the mount, a closer image from dead on, say lift the door open and looking right at it..

i'm just totally blown away on how you can fit a hydralic shock in there! totally cool..

i think this will be a future mod !

This is absolutely the best looking mod to date. Wow! Great work! I look forward to seeing more pics after you have everything back together. Is this an expensive to have a custom shop to install? Can anyone recommend the best shop (nyc) to have this done?

Cheers. -m

BigBadBlackTrack, I guess you ran right past my question in the middle of all the other questions. Here it is again, I'm also looking to have this done to my SuperBlack once the guy is done with thattacks Brickyard in St. Pete.

sorry man i skipped your question. manual is good enough for me.

here is how the door works.

1. open it like a normal door
2. open it 5 inches away from the body of the car just like the normal door
3. the hinge is locked at this position
4. the only way to move the door from here is up.

to close is the same way. only in reverse pushing the door up or down is just like closing your hatch. it requires so little effort.

as you can see from my description it would be hard to motorize this just because you need two motors or solonoids. 1 to pop the door open and extend it 5 inches away from the door and another one to extend it upwards.

UPDATE:
we are currently experiencing heavy alignment issues in regards to the door hitting the fenders when they open. we need to have the predrilled holes in the hinges to be welded shut and drill new ones in order to make this work. the hinges with the hydraulic shock that they sent were grade A quality. unfortunately they never took time out to align the mounting screws properly!!!

sunday is a rest day. monday we will work on it again.

we are working in my garage im pretty skilled mechanically and my friend who is the head guy at a bodyshop is helping me out. we have all of the air tools necessary. of course we also have extra helping hands here and there to lift the door away from the car and such.

As everyone else said, your car is coming along great. Can't wait for the pictures of when it's all done.

I've never seen one of these types of doors in person so from the photos it looks like there's no room to get out or in so I'll reserve judgement till I see finished photos.

Keep up the good work.

Yo, BBBT... you said you're modding for "the ever goin search for uniqueness." You're there, man. Believe me. Your car screeeeams with uniqueness, and it's a beauty.

I hope your work with the passenger side comes along without too much more difficulty. Can't wait to see the pics. Amazing...

Is the holes and bracket different on the driver and passanger door.

I would jump on this kit once it is completed and it is a bolt on, but the thing is I got a Right hand drive car (How much more JDM can you get?), so I would need to know if it is different.

I thought nissan made everything pretty much the same on both side of the car, so I was assuming the driver door bracket will go right on my passanger door, and vice versa.

Can you get me a little info on it? How soon will this kit be ready for release once the prototype (you) is done?

So many mods, so little time.
