I got pulled over with my nismo and test pipes. But he let me go because I told him that I had an exhaust leak that I was getting fixed the next day.

Based on your question I'm assuming you're new to SoCal?

Yes cops are bitchy! Remember, behind that uniform they are human just like you and I, however due to Cali's super strict laws, most Cops will be total A-holes!

Only garauntee that you wont get pulled over or messed with, keep your car stock. Even then many cops will think they know it all and may cite you anyway for the exhaust or anything else they think you voilated.

When I first got my car back in 2003 I got a modified exhaust ticket.... for MY STOCK EXHAUST!!!!!! I had to go to court and show them videos of a stock 350z being turned on at the dealership so they could compare exhaust notes... side by side!

Now... I just don't give a fawk, so I probably have one of the loudest Z's with about the most tix's for something or another.

youre lucky to be pulled over by police because usually they just check to see how modified your exhaust looks visually

CHP however know alot more because they take classes on mods etc... they actually make you rev it sometimes, pop your hood to peep for the CARB stuff and "urban legend" which i have no confirmed about the mirrors under to peep for str8 pipe etc....

you should be fine just dont be a "ricer" and drive like ***

I just got around to looking up the vehicle codes from an encounter with a CHP a couple of weeks ago:

21750(a) - Loud Exhaust/Inadequate Muffler
26708(a)1 - Tinted Windows (front and side)
5200(a) - Fail to attach lic. plate (front)

I think he wrote me a gimme on the exhaust.... 21750(a) does not exist, but 21750 states:

21750. The driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle or a
bicycle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left at a
safe distance without interfering with the safe operation of the
overtaken vehicle or bicycle, subject to the limitations and
exceptions hereinafter stated.
He should have cited me for 27150. It is always a good idea to look up the infractions (code and description must match) you are cited for. Sometimes the officer/deputy will make a mistake, so if you have half a brain you can be excused from the ticket.

Just remember that the 27150 is not all about loudness. It can also be for "unusual noises", which is enough to pull you over. Hit radio shack and pick up a decibel meter to see if you exceed 95db. If you don't, then go for a referee as provided for in 27150.2, and it can potentially be dismissed under 27150.7

Cheers, Ted

P.S. Running DC headers, custom cats, DMH performance E-coutouts, all mated to a Stillen Dual Ex.

^ lol... Drive a 1,000 miles to your left for a better understanding

They offer free courses on kalifornia kodes.

What kills me is getting one of these tickets as a pack of Harley's go thundering by, or as 18 wheelers sit there spewing out tons of black smoke, or a lifted 4x4 with off road knobbies - no mud guards and tires sticking 5" from the fender well goes charging up the onramp throwing gravel back at everyone.

Try Xerd Long Tubes, Tanabe Y-pipe and 5Zigen Single exit 3".

The cop took the time to take a picture of not only the car at different angles, but a picture looking into the canister. Apperantly an exhaust should have min 3-bends???? My exhaust is basically straight from the y-pipe back.

I got pulled over yesterday but it is because I am an idiot. I saw a motorcycle cop sitting off to the side of the road with a radar gun so I gave him a little rev when I drove by. I guess it pissed him off because he came right after me. He threatened to give me a ticket for the modified exhaust but I kept telling him that it is a Nissan performance exhaust and that some Z's come with them.

I guess the lesson is, don't be a moron and rev in front of cops

you can basically they can impound you for anything they feel like it depending on the situation and the cop

anything usually non- OEM and non-CARB legal is considered modified

blame the "ricers" and idiot fast and furious street racer teens for the most part.. so many innocents involved in injuries and fatalities with street racing and wreckless driving .. having a modded car in CA is a burn...unless you drive a vette or stang
