Default Quick questions to those with Mercury Insurance

I pay about $266 mo/ for mercury insurance. My policy is up this month and I just got my new policy for the next 6 months, I hadn't made any changes, but it went up $48 for next 6 months or $8 more a month. I called my agent to see if Mercury had any rate changes this year and she said no. She said she'd look into why my policy went up. She called back and said the reason is because my car is equipped with ABS and that that is the reason why it went up this year.......? Has anyone else had this happen to them or their rates gone up for this reason? Shenanigans?

I have Mercury.... I'll have to see what our policy has done over the last renewal. I can't see why ABS would make your insurance go "up".... maybe down.

Some people pay more money for more coverage. Other companys offer cheaper rates, but dont cover as much. Im with mercury and i need to check my account to see if my plan went up.

You can't make that blanket statement. Apples to oranges. Are you over or under 25? Similar plans? Similar driving records? Similar locations?

I pay less than the OP also, but I'm over 25, clean record, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Your price will go up EVERY time you renew. Insurance companies know it is easier to pay a few dollars more than to find a new insurance company.

Shop around. Check with several companies before you decide on one. Then after a year, find a new company.

I Insure my car plus my Convertable for under $100 per month. But I am also over 25. (Here in Cali, 25 is the age when insurance gets cheaper)

Ours hasn't...... (although waiting to check when the bill comes this next time).

The only time it went up was when my wife got into an accident (her fault) or if we replaced a car with a more expensive/ higher risk car.

I have one point on my record, over 25 and pay about $100 a month for my Z and my Honda civic. My rate used to be cheaper but went up by $5 a month as well. I didn't care to look into why though.

Who's this Fooshe guy anyways?

+1

I've had them since 2002 and I used to make it a point to shop at least 3 places each renewal (6 mos.). I say "used to" because since I got my home insurance with them, no one else can touch their auto ins premium.

Something just dawned on me, since you have ABS, why would the rates go up. I coulda sworn it's suppose go lower because you have ABS.

than WTF? I had 5 points, and as a matter of fact, 1 just came off 2 months ago, so this renewal should be cheaper and they raise it? I shopped around and with 4 points, I really dont have much options cause I would pay around 800 dollar anywhere else. My tickets are from 2005/06(I was stupid with my S13). I am currently 21.

That's what I noticed when I used to shop at renewal time, everyone else was at least twice as much. And, it's not like Mercury is a no-name company.

I guess you'll just have to bite the bullet 'til next renewal. It's only 8 bucks after all.

21 y/o with tickets from the last couple of years?.... I think you're stuck. Isn't it "no tickets or accidents within the last three years?".

Keep it safe for a couple more years and you should save a bit. Then when you turn 25, you should see more savings.
